It's happened to keepers before at top clubs. They seem to get into a rut where a couple of mistakes turn in to a few and it is hard to turn it around. De Gea seems to be at that stage now and it may be time for him to move on. As strange as it seems, it may be good for United too. If they could go and get Oblak or someone who has that kind of presence. His past performances shouldn't count for anything at the level that United want to be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Think its similar to his Spanish predecessors Valdes and Casillas, at the top for a long time but then a sharp decline all of a sudden.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yep. It isn't uncommon for it to happen to keepers anywhere. Happened to Cech too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Reina with us as well. Top keeper with us for a number of years until final year under Rafa when it started to turn to Shiitt.

Had his head turned by Arsenal when they made a bid and lead to arrogance on the field in thinking he was better than his teammates, regularly blaming them for goals conceded when he was just as, if not more liable.

His focus swayed and his performances got worse and worse until under Brendan's first season when he was practically making a howler every other match until we got rid of him in the summer as he was a clear weaklink.

I see a lot of parallels with De Gea.

De Gea is an old fashioned goalkeeper but the modern goalkeeper needs to be good with his feet and he is awful with that.

De geas had a mixed pl career really. Still remember that arsenal utd game though where arsenal could have scored 6 or 7 but I believe utd won 3-1? One of the most outrageous goalkeeping performances I've ever seen

mixed? he has been absolutely sensational up until a few months ago.

remember the spurs game in j anuary?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Had two years of fantastic form but was very fragile his first couple of years. And last 18 months.
So pretty mixed

Thats probably why he's sh!t at 1 on 1's then.

He means passing and managing his area though. Does DDG even leave his line?

No, that’s my biggest gripe with him, always has been

I've no gripes with him. He plays to his strengths, great stopper, not so good at leaving his line or commanding his area. so he relies on his reflexes and agility which are exceptional. Nobody has it all ,all the time, not even the great Dane. He is off form, but not horrendously so, hopefully he will get it back soon.

There does seem to be something up with DDG. Concentration levels that leads to avoidable errors have seemed to slowly creep in as time has passed.

Maybe he’s stuck in limbo in wanting a new challenge but it seems that the chances of a big move for him has currently sailed. And that he’s trying to put on a brave face.

Or it could be that the change in the adventurous style of play has exposed some of his weaknesses?

But when he does decide to show form, he is incredible.

I don’t know what’s up with him. Just hope he regains back that incredible composure and cut out the howlers.

Always been strangely weak on his near post as we saw again against palace but as a reflex shot stopper by a mile the best in the prem

Coming off the back of a forum where some spurs fans want Poch out, now we’re asking whether 28 year old De Gea is finished?

This place is starting to show why it’s so hard for managers and players to look long term these days.

Ridiculous short term reactions that lose sight of long term overall gains.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Short term reactions? Have you watched him for the last 18months?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes I have.

Was there anything else you needed?

Has Degea been bad for 18 months, Ederson would be useless for behind our defence we need a good shot stopper how many saves does Ederson have to make compared to Degea if you swapped the two city wouldn’t concede anymore but I’m not sure about us.
I thought Lingard was the latest whipping boy not Degea
