An improvement though massive test against Leeds and see how Cocu deals with their 3 at the back. Might continue to stutter through September by October time I hope we're running.

Some worries, but more encouraged by the 2nd half.

What are your fears Ang?? Apart from the 10-20 turnovers we give each team a game.

Share away.

With Leeds paricularly in mind, Im concerned about the pace of Clarke & Huddz.

The physicality of Holmes

And TL

I thought Holmes competed physically early doors. Yeah Leeds one will be a tough test. I think that team is flexible though can switch to 3 at the back or 4-4-2 at a pinch to get some pressure on them. Think we'll need Waggy's physicality but would like to see Holmes or Paterson given a run out in that position. Not against Leeds though.

Just back from PP.

Vast improvement but that shows the depths we have plumbed.

To me we had a definite penalty for Waghotn when we were 1-0 up, awarded that and we would not have conceded theirs, if you see what I mean.

Clarke is worrying, TL once again.....well, I just don't get why all the managers persist with him, he just does not read the game, I'm sorry but surely something has to give. Waghorn was dangerous, Holmes was lively and looked if he could be the catalyst but he was battered into submission by a horrible Cardiff side.

The ref? Very poor and not just for the non- penalty award but the bizarre stoppages of the game when a Cardiff player was down clutching his leg and refusing to stop when a Derby player had a head injury.

Well it was entertaining (if sometimes for the wrong reasons).

Positives - everything after Brentford!

Seriously I liked the look of Holmes, he scared them to death and never gave up for our goal. 'Zoon played like a man possessed, really quick, I hope he keeps it up and Lowe seems to be gaining confidence with every game

Agree with the above 2 posts! I thought Martin looked good and I would have liked him to come on sooner. He should be playing with Waghorn up front IMHO.

I am absolutely fed up with that ineffective little Tommy Tuppence, he is a disgrace to the team. He loses the ball and instead of trying to get it back he stands there posing. It goes on game after game and what makes it worse is he can actually play well very occasionally. If he was a young player just starting in the team you could sympathise, but he is an experienced player and should do more. Why he keeps getting picked is beyond me.

We sold the lovely Will for £4 million and then buy that thing for £7 million, no wonder the club are in a financial mess.

You can tell Cocu is coaching new things into the players. I liked a lot of the way we went about it last night. There were some jitters at the back, mainly from Clarke, but I hope we stick with him and Keogh. Huddz passing was off but having him and Bielik helps our physicality. Could make a case for him making way for Dowell, Knight or Sibley in certain games. Holmes added a lot in my opinion. I understand the anti-Lawrence brigade and he flatters to deceive but Cocu, as with Lampard, clearly believes he has more ability than the alternatives as does his national manager. Maybe these managers are all thick and know nothing about football. Josefzoon was good in his cameo last night.

Brentford apart, we are doing alright. We haven’t really had the rub of the green to turn draws into wins. I like Cocu’s style and after the Leeds game which will be very tough to get anything out of I expect us to steadily start climbing the table.

This is a non-political comment.

And noting that Aus are 85-4.

And that in the good old days we would never dream of leaving a perfectly good match thread on 190 comments or so.

Ang, Scouse, I am looking at you!
