Very tough game.
Imagine this thread if we have Gomez and Milner playing FB and our midfield romps it against theirs.
According to RDD Trent and Robbo provide all our creativity whilst our midfield just huff and puff, so that would be a turn up for the books.
Not that he has the class to address it.
Our midfield's energy and positional intelligence allows the full backs and front 3 to flourish. They're the foundation to our attacking game.
Move Utd's midfielders to Liverpool and the lack of movement (Matic), positional discipline (Pogba) and energy (both) would have been a real problem. My guess is we'd have gone out of Europe to Barca (maybe even the groups) and been in a 5 way scrap for the top 4 with City way out on their own.
I don't actually think having our midfield (Fabinho, Henderson and Wij for arguments sake) would have helped Utd enormously. There would have been little width provided by the FBs and the forward options would have been the same, injuries the same and they'd have lost Pogba's goals which were vital when Ole first came.
I think their defence would have been far better. They conceded a whopping 54 goals in the league last season. 8 of Pogbas goals were penalties and the rest again the bottom three I believe so I think they would have been able to bridge that loss.
I had to check whether Matic is still even an international footballer. Started against Portugal and they conceded four.
