It's not even the results exactly or individual player peeformances it's the lack of any sort of direction, improvement in the mentality or ability to learn from glaring repeated mistakes.

Over a year in and it's hard to tell what he sees as an end goal for the side, I think that's because he's not building to anything in particular in terms of team style.

Generally the sides that have done well consistently (while always capable evolving) at least had a recognisable style that worked consistently for them, something the players could grow into together.

The squad is good enough to do a lot better, from what I've seen Emery shouldn't last beyond Christmas if some sort of master plan doesn't at least start to show by then.

Really? It is very clear he wants to play 4-3-3, where the full backs offer the attacking width. Xhaka as a DLP, with two midfielders pressing higher. He also wants those two to be creative. Then two inverted wide attackers, and the striker.
The only question mark I have over his first xi is whether Torreira gets into his best xi or Guendouzi has overtaken him. Otherwise it is simple; Leno, Bellerin, Sokratis, Luiz, Tierney, Xhaka, Ceballos, Auba, Pepe, Laca when everyone is fit.

The fact you're suggesting that Xhaka is in his plans for a key role surely rules him out as a legitimate choice for a manager long term regardless

Defence would be a total joke in that system even with a decent DLM/P anyway.

I don't agree he's even clear with that plan though, think you're seeing things based on his past teams that jave barely been touched on during his time at Arsenal. Not in a consistent way where the players look like they're learning

Any manager who gets David Luiz in as the solution to a weak and porous defence and a team with a poor mentality needs his head examined as well as being fired immediately.

Kieran Tierney is a great buy in the long term...absolutely no question about it....but it is obvious that Arsenal needed immediate improvement at the back. The league will be lost before Tierney is a regular starter in the team so you have to question if it was the right move for arsenal at that time.

Also, Tierney will spend so much time worrying about Luiz and covering up for him that his attacking threat will be nullified.

Having said that...arsenal fans will be delighted with Tierney in the long run. I've watched him since he was a lad and he will be world class. A much better defender than Robertson and probably better going forward too. With the right coach and team mates, he'll have almosy as big an impact on arsenal than vvd has had on liverpool.

We never had a chance for the league.

Emery is leading the way in most of these stats

Most shots conceded, close to a 100 in 5 games

Most errors leading to a goal

Most penalties

There are many more negative stats like this

Agreed....but you should be able to compete for a couple of months before throwing in the towel completely.

This season is simply about getting CL. Has to be done, no real excuse not to. Last season was a bit of a free hit for Emery, but this season I have little doubt he will be replaced if he doesnt get that minimum target.

Xhaka is captain, of course he is in the managers plans.

Does that not concern you? That he clearly rates such an awful player. What's the point of keeping a manager who can't judge a players quality

Thats what has created the most doubt on Emery. What was refreshing last season was his fearlessness in shaking things up. This season he is doing the opposite. I think he has lost confidence and is bailing out by handing power over to the dressing room, and specifically the loudest in it, just like Wenger did in his final years.

I don't know when the board will move if Emery continues this weakness but when it does we will need a big name to right the ship!

The team that had 31 shots against Arsenal are 5-0 down after 18 minutes and are the bottom team.

Our problem is in centre midfield. Thats where counter attacks spring from, 3 of Man City goals came from that and is also where we are supposed to screen our defence. We are just too slow in CM in both phases of play.

I wonder what the dressing room think of Xhaka now!

They definitely will if we go into the game 'scared'. Norwich turned over Man City because of a little luck and some belief. You don't need cowards in the team or as captain. How will you ever build confidence to improve if you don't believe in yourself?

Castor Troy going by how dominant Watford were against Arsenal, try about 12 or 13 lol.

Emery should be fired at the end of the season if not before. He is completely out of his depth in the Premier League. I just hope he goes before Auba and Laca do. If they go we are seriously f****d. Our new signings have all been poor. Ceballos had one good game but has looked lightweight since then. Pepe looks like a lazy show pony with no bottle. Completely outplayed by an 18 year old Saka the other night. Luiz is just another poser who will always contrive to lose you the game.
Both our midfield and defence are a shambles. You will see that Bellerin is not a very good defender. It’s going to be yet another very frustrating and disappointing season unless we get a new manager at Xmas and even then he will have to work miracles.

Totally agree , any team in the league would concede loads of goals too if they had a midfield like ours, their is no tracking runners , no covering gaps and no link at all with the defenders , whenever we get the ball away it comes straight back because the midfield isn't getting and holding the ball, Im sure this is part of the reason why were playing the stupid short goal kicks too because the midfield are not picking up anything loose when we play long. The defence is taking all the stick and they deserve a lot of it because of stupid penalties and errors etc but the pressure is coming from no defensive midfield.

Results wise it's not a crisis, still early in the season and we're in a decent position, it's that a lot of fans are now feeling that he's not the right man going forward.

Dexter Morgan we dominate games and lose. Arsenal get outplayed most games.

Football is like that teams can play well and not win regularly like Man Utd.

Always give manager a season but this second season is worse than first. No identity whatsoever. Allegri is available
