It could make Town even more powerfull in this league, it also makes it imperative that we go up next season!
Morning Wethers .. Where dye think Nathans gonna go .. Surely not Oldham .. ? .. Maybe join up with Greg Abbot & J B at Carlisle (I can see that you know) ~ or Skarzys Bury ~ Happen Jacko's Bradford if he's prepped to drop a divi .. ?
He's an honest lad with a lot to offer ~ and deserves a real good club ..
He's also got his throw ins come crosses! Don't know is honest answer bootsie.
The main thing here is,spending a percentage of turnover on wages. This will still make the larger clubs more powerful and in a better position to strengthen their squads as they have larger turnovers. If we do win promotion next season we are going from a division where we are probably viewed as heavyweights with a large turnover compared to clubs in our division to a division where we are/have neither!!!It will prevent clubs being debt ridden by overstretching themselves in trying to win promotion/trophy's,but are they introducing this with the assumption that most teams have the same turnover.I would imagine that Town's turnover is considerably larger than Leyton Orients,so Town are at a advantage over Orient in regards to squad strengthening.Whereas if we where to reach the Championship, Town's turnover would not be the same as Leeds's who can command a average gate of over 12000 more than Town and all the extras they generate. So we probably wouldn't be in as such a strong position to compete with the bigger teams in that league and if we can't compete and spend 10 seasons treading water in mid table, crowds will plummet making us less and less able to compete. Is that a correct assumption of what would happen or am I reading too much into it??As for the Premier League they are a law unto themselves and are everything that's bad about the modern game.
Well he could be worth picking up as if you think about it its almost certain Tom may be prepared to follow ~ They seem pretty close brothers in arms .. ~ ~
I know they've both been a bit injury prone which is a real shame but their footballing ability is without question by all but the very negative and harsh, inter where are you ~
I think your right! Basically Dean can't bank roll us to the Premier league! Competing in the league above will do me.... For now!
Would this mean Deans Millions wouldn't quite have the same appeal or buying power .. ? .. Hey maybe there are some downsides that aren't so obvious at first here ..
Perhaps tho, it WILL Focus Clubs into doing ALL They can to Build up their Various Income Sources and Revenue Streams in order to raise their Sally Cap spend .. A Good Thing ..
As ever it seems a bit of a Six & Two Threes affair ..
Nothing wrong with a salary cap, works in rugby league. I expect it is to encourage clubs to develop their own playing talent too. Financial mismanagement has caused problems at quite a few clubs so some order does need to be restored, but I'd like to see 'credits' for playing home grown players. This might help develop the youngsters by playing them alongside 'seasoned pro's' perhaps. Agree we need to get out of this league next year though..Charlton, both Sheffield clubs and Preston would have big budgets too I expect..
Like I pointed out if you can command gates of 25000 and have 10000 fans in the club lottery,15000 buy programmes and have something to eat at the ground,10000 spend something in the club shop then your in a decent position but if you don't your won't be able to compete with the bigger turnovers.
There is only so much clubs can do to increase extra revenue, clubs have a limited amount of customers ie the fans that are loyal to the club.It wouldn't matter if your club was owned by Bill Gates or me in terms of how personally rich the owner is(and I'm not as rich as Bill Gates,in fact I'm not even rich!!),the club would only be able to spend the percentage of turnover stipulated on team wages.
Another thing as well "fly by night" owners like Darragh MacAnthony won't be able to get teams like Peterborough into the higher division on gates of 6000.We all know they are relying on his personal fortune to fund team strengthening.Lets see which division they find themselves in when they adopt the new measures.Granted Deano has bank rolled signings but the noises coming out of the club is that we will be running on a even keel shortly.
Great article, as usual Boots, great.
Me'thinks it will call for a degree of Creative Accounting .. Is Clibbens quite creative .. ~ ~ Certainly showed some acting talent when wriggling out of that Speeding Court Ban ..
The most successfull clubs have coaches, to develop the players skills..I didn't see many 'developed' players last season..Hunt and ridehaugh came through but the players brought in didn't seem to improve much in my opinion..We need to play football, on the floor...from under 11's right through to the 1st team...one style so players brought in can slot into the same playing pattern..Loans and the likes of Naysmith, Kilbane, Lee, Gudjonsson and cadamarteri didn't bring us the success we wanted...just quick fixes to paper over the cracks of a flawed system producing ugly football...We need some fresh modern ideas and surely get back to the passing game which all the promoted clubs seem to have played.
Oh Ta Thats Great M8 ~ You Out n About tonight then
Whoosh Thats a Supporting Curve Ball from an unexpected source .. Well Said Terrier4503 .. Very Well said .. ~
Sums many of my own regular feelings up in one post ~
It would put more emphasis on the development of home grown players.agreed, but the bigger clubs can still attract the best young players,as they still have the best facilties and youth set ups.We are quite lucky at Town, as the club had the foresight to develop a academy so maybe we can compete but small clubs who have no academy can't.I can't see clubs pouring money into the youth set up as it doesn't give you a instant fix in 10 years, yes, maybe you may start to see some benefit but not instantly, some clubs don't have 10 years to wait.
ridiculous rule! it can be regarded as a restriction of trade!!
all its gonna do is keep well supported teams up there with them able to pay higher wages and getting the better players!!
survival of the richest/fittest thats wot i say!
blackburn, fulham, wolves are all in the prem league down to having a rich benefactor....soon as its our turn they wonna spoil it...NO NO NO
Hydy ~ Got yer P M tweet ta & have responded accordingly Not sure if there's a Message Alert facility on there that you have to switch on hence this post .. ?
Arterrier ~ On balance bearing in mind the importance it attaches (by rule Insinuation or varying Nuances) to bringing thru ones own youth ~ It Surely is a Swerve Step in the right direction .. Quite a big one i think .. Are you thinking along those lines too .. ? With Further tweaking to be done going forward .. ?
I'm not sure thats the case tezz69 ~ I get the impression from a bit o rule reading their are balancing technicalities allowing lesser attended clubs to spend a larger % of their understandably lesser income streams .. I'm no Contracts Lawyer or expert in the field but there'll always be ways n means n nods n winks of using various creative means of recompensing players .. Corner the market in brown paper bags is what i'd say .. ~ ~
I would agree Boots that developing your own players is a good thing and should be encouraged immensely but as I've said clubs with big successful youth set ups are already years in front of clubs who cannot afford to run big youth set ups that some clubs run.
You only have to look at the England team to see what the lack of investment in youth in this country is doing..then look at Barcelona who invested in youth many years ago...how long do you wait before you learn the lessons..The premier league is full of foreigners only because they don't develop their own (English) players...surely out of the tens of thousands of kids out there playing under 8's and upwards there are a few hundred who with the aide of coaching could make a very good footballer ? What is the alternative, more of the same...I don't think so. Too much money goes out of football altogether via players million pound a year pay packets...that needs putting back into then grass roots of English football, however long it takes.
Yeah i suppose...i agree with a salary cap period..ie say a max 2grand a week for all league 1 clubs..then the smaller clubs have the same chance of getting the top players!
Think you misunderstand 1969 its not a cap on earnings its a cap on a clubs turnover being spent on wages. So,no it won't allow clubs have the same chance of getting players as you say.
What it does mean is that if you have a sprinkling of home produced players in your squad, you can spend more on 'experienced' players ...otherwise you just have a load of average players and you get nowhere with average players.
yeah i know that arterrier...wot i meant is that if there was a max wage any team could pay across the board then yes i,m in favour!! but to base it on a teams turnover for what u can spend is a clear restriction of trade and would not be acceptable!! it would just keep large clubs large and small clubs small!!
if clubs cant work to their budgets and use common sence then they deserve to go to the wall!
prem clubs only stay were they are due to the large tv money they receive...they dont wanna share it fairly with us.....if hoyleovich,s money gets us there then we too can be self sufficient with larger crowds tv money etc..
we just need his hand to get there!!
these new rulings to me will stop town ever reaching the premiership
