Putting a 39 year old Scholes in is peak revisionism.

Him and Carrick just keep getting better dont they.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Scholes and Carrick were definitely on the decline, I just don't think that Liverpool's middle three this season are that great.

I like Fabinho as a player, which is why he makes it. There could also be an argument for Hendo, but despite Scholes and Carrick's physical limitations in 2013, imagine them picking balls out to RVP, Mane, and Salah!!

De Gea

TAA VVD Rio Evra

Scholes Carrick

Mane Rooney Salah

RVP

Scholes played 16 games in 2013 and half of those werent starts. Are people thinking 2003 or something?

Was Vidic the better player then? I'm just looking at United's team for that season and Ferdinand made 6 more appearances in the league and 9 more in total.

Rooney was more of a number 10/midfielder/holding mid around that time. Combined 11:

-----------------------------De Gea-----------------------

Jones--------------Vidic--------Rio--------------Evra

------------------------------Rooney

--------------Rooney-----Scholes-----------Nani

------------------------Rooney----RVP-----------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rooney not in goal?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Two different positions. Giggs player as a left winger during his prime. Salah as a wide forward with less defensive responsibilities.

Giggs performed at a high level over most of his career, Salah has only starting reaching a high level over the last 3 seasons.

It’s crazy how Liverpool overate their players above champions who have won it all and have been consistent over a decade.

How is VVD in above Vidic and Rio? He’s had two great seasons and he’s 28.

not very good but good enough to help carry their team to a league title?

maybe not as good as previous, but to say not very good is a bit short sighted

Utd let in 48 goals that season.

There were only 3 players in that United squad who played over 30 games in the league. Must have been a very rotated or injury ravaged team. By comparison there were 9 who played 30 or more for Liverpool last season. Probably going to be a similar number this season barring any major injury set backs.

Robertson with ease over Evra.

2013 De Gea was superb, a shell of that now though.

GK De Gea
LB Robertson
CB Van Dijk
CB Vidic
RB Alexander-Arnold
MF Milner
MF Scholes
MF Fabinho
FW Mane
FW RVP
FW Salah
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Milner
----------------------------------------------------------------------

De Gea a shell of what he was after 3 months of bad form 😂

Milner 😂

Rafael was a far better rounded full back than TAA as well who has been roasted by many wingers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rafael

So good he was sold and faded into obscurity.

As for 3 months De Gea was hopeless for all of last season and forever chucks them in when he keeps goal for Spain.

Scholes was pretty over the hill by then. Carrick on the other hand would probably still get regular minutes for both United and Liverpool.

yeah Rafael has faded into obscurity only playing 115 gmaes in 4 seasons for Lyon

If we're basing it solely on that 2013 United team and not what they did before, then I don't see how any of United's back five get in. United conceded 43 goals in 38 games that season.

Only one you could make an argument for is De Gea but that was only his second season at United, and I don't think he was close to his peak at that point?

posted on 18/10/19

Probably Rooneys last season before the decline became noticeable... A lot of those United players were more or less in their last season at the club, and top level, think it was Ferguson and RVP who mainly got them over the line. That and our inability to cope without Kompany.

All of last season? People were still raving about him up until and just shortly after his performance against spurs where he seemed to stop 100 shots on target. Even after his mistakes he was still saving us points making wonder saves like the one against West Ham.

Again another Liverpool fans overeating another one of their players after a short period of very good form.

De Gea has undoubted been the best keeper in the world over the last 6 years. It only took one season of good form from Alisson for some Liverpool fans to schit on all of that consistency.

He’s in a more advanced position than Giggs of course he’d score more goals. Would I take Giggs of 99 over Salah right now, of course I would. Giggs was on another level with his all round player. He was up and down the pitch doing two jobs and still remained creatively consistent.

His repuation has been going south for much longer.

Internationals being where it started and even throughout that time he's always had a clanger in him.

I agree though he has been the best in the world, i just think he's been nowhere near that for a while.
