One thing I don't agree with is criticising his English. It took Pochettino over two years to even learn English to a level where he could even attempt to speak without someone translating his Spanish to English for him in public. I couldn't believe how long there was a translator for him in press conferences.

Emery has done well to learn English to the level he has in his limited time in England so far and should be commended for actually trying to speak it and learn quickly. Yes, perhaps at times he is not always getting the exact message across to his players that he wants to because his vocabulary is not that extensive but he's doing his best and should be commended for that. It also doesn't help that the majority of our players don't speak English as their first language either.

There's plenty to criticise him for but it's so snobby for people to laugh at his English when that's probably the one language they can speak themselves. I can speak Dutch to native level having lived there for 15 years when I was growing up and I also speak Spanish to a fluent level - I suspect anyone else who has learned a foreign language to a fluent level realises just how well Emery has actually done in this regard in the year and a half he's been learning.

That's not to say I don't find the Good Ebening banter funny though. We also used to laugh about some of Wenger's sayings & phrases in the past so it feels like a nice succession - just a shame that feeling is missing when it comes to Emery's managerial ability.

I don’t think some people realise how difficult it is to learn any language much less English.

Good evening. It’s like emery is stating the bloody obvious all day long, if he talks to the players like that then we can see why the results are as such

He can’t go into any sort of depth

Some people may feel like that if they are coming from a background where their native language is Germanic.

Those whose native languages were born from Latin or other alphabets tend to feel that English is one of the most difficult to learn as far as I know.

Finnish is widely regarded as the most difficult language to learn full-stop asfaik.

I think you're slightly missing the point - It's not about how well he has managed to pick up the language in a short space of time. He is here to do a job and that is to manage the players. A player being able to understand what his manager is telling him is pretty fundamental.

Yes he's learnt a lot of vocabulary, and whilst it's commendable it's very much besides the point.

In my opinion he really needs to work on his accent. Even fluent English speakers struggle to understand what he's trying to say, so our players who don't have English as their first language are clearly going to struggle. If Saka can't understand him at times then how is for example Kolasinac going to? He really should use a translator more often.

What I wrote was not intended to be a dig at you, but those in general that laugh at his ability to speak English - I totally agree that communication is essential and the key is the detail, if he's struggling to get that detail across then he should be keeping a translator beside him at all times, particularly when coaching players, ideally a translator who can speak multiple languages, not just Spanish & English since we have a range of nationalities.

As the Manager he needs to be intelligent enough and responsible enough to realise if this is necessary - which I'm pretty sure it probably is personally. If he's missing something glaringly obvious like this it wouldn't be a real surprise considering what he fails to see from 90 minutes of football played out before his own-eyes. Scratch that, more like a season and a half of football.

I don't personally know if he keeps a translator close to him at all times when he's at work but there was a young chap who was sat next to him in press conferences for a good long while after Emery joined and he seemed to disappear a little while ago, rather suddenly I thought.

I actually have no trouble understanding his accent but I'm told I have an ear for languages and accents and I'm used to foreign languages to so that's probably why.

He might have trouble being understood in the media, But I’m sure he is able to communicate with the squad effectively. We’re hardly going to hire a manager with there being no structure in place to help get his message across, especially while he learns English better. Plus I’ve seen videos of him instructing the players a lot and taking active role in training. He seems to get on fine.

It’s more a worry that what he’s telling them isn’t working, or the player’s aren’t enacting his plans. I’m sure they understand what he wants fine

Would something so amateurish as us failing to put the required staff in place on a day to day basis to make sure the detail of what Emery wants is correctly interpreted by the players surprise you?

It wouldn't surprise me, there are so many aspects of the team and club (particularly the team and decisions players make though) that have seemed amateurish for years now. Blowing a two goal lead like we did on Sunday for one.

Recently listened to an interview with a journalist who covers Spanish football. Seems like Emery doesn’t communicate brilliantly even in his mother tongue. There’s no particular depth to anything he says, opting for sound bites rather than detail.

We’re basically being managed by the Spanish Garth Crooks.

When you look into his background and management style, he comes across so much like AVB..... famous for his brilliant communication skills.

You need more solidification
