>> But there must be something more to it.

100% correct, I'd bet my shirt on it.

All three are sacking offences, he is obviously the least valuable asset.

DERBY have given Richard Keogh two weeks to accept a huge cut in his wages or face the prospect of being sacked.

But I'm struggling to see how if this was a sacking offence Bennett's and Lawrence's weren't.

The statement put out by derby completely contradicts the action they took over Lawrence and Bennett.

Sadly that club is corrupt as they come at present.

You can’t sack a player because he’s turned down a contract extension on less wages.

As a Forest fan, I've refrained from commenting till now.

Sorry, but Derby have lost all credibility by sacking the older player who was in the back seat, injured in the crash and out for the rest of the season - after handing out slaps on the wrist to the two young, uninjured players who crashed while drink-driving, then ran off.

Suppose it was, say, Cash and Worrall, with Dawson in the Keogh role, and Forest had sacked Dawson but not the two younger players - I'd seriously consider not going to watch the team again.

Absolutely disgusting.

Keogh actions have meant he’s injured and can’t work for 18 months, through neglect.

That how I see derby justifying it. And rightly so

The other two lads, were fit for work a week later

Agree on the first part, but he is probably also the most expensive asset at £25k per week allegedly. That may be different to "least valuable"

The article posted by Sol (from The Sun - take it how you see it) suggests he was just given two weeks to accept a huge pay cut or be sacked. But BBC says he has been sacked.

If he fails in his bid to get his contract paid up by Derby at a tribunal or some other form of agreement, he can just sue Lawrence and Bennett as an injured party in an accident where the insurance refuses to pay out due to drink driving

His career is over either way now, as he won't get Derby's free physiotherapy either

posted on 30/10/19

And legally there is a different

One isn’t fit for work for 18 months, the other two are.

Huge difference in the case. They won’t have sacked him without getting legal advice.

Morally, think it’s disgusting

sol.the reson they have kept Lawrence and Bennett and not sacked them is they are still classed as assets and Lawrence under ffp they cant afford to sack him.and if as reported in the guardian Keogh hasinstructed solicitors on the matter and gone to the PFA it could be false economy on the part of dcfc if lawyers get involved with their legal fees

Yeah, I get it.

This should be a straight-forward issue of employment law and individual contacts.

It is hopefully not an issue for inter-club moral grandstanding.

I assume they cant have done this unless Keogh was at some sort of fault on the night

Just because he didnt get done for drink driving like the other two doesnt mean he wasnt part of the reckless stupidity

I imagine in the clubs rules as well the Captain is expected to hold himself to a higher standard

I don’t get what’s so hard to understand. If I got injured through my own neglect, I’d be sacked and not paid.

Which is why I didn't comment earlier. Any club can have idiots on its staff.

But the way the club responds does matter. If Keogh is guilty of gross misconduct, the two younger players are guilty in spades - but somehow they just get fined.

If you think that's right and proper, good luck with that.

posted on 30/10/19

Part-Time. Never suggested it is "right and proper", nor did I give my own opinion - I take a more stringent view, but why I left it to contacts and the law

Surely all 3 should be sacked. They could killed people ffs.

Derby have sacked defender Richard Keogh for gross misconduct following his involvement in a drink-driving incident in September.

The defender was told on Wednesday he had to accept a new contract with the Rams on lower wages if he wanted to remain at the East Midlands club.

Keogh had had his campaign cut short following his involvement in what the club described as an "alcohol-related incident" last month, and is likely to be sidelined with a knee injury until December 2020.

Derby manager Phillip Cocu says Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence must learn from their actions after they pleaded guilty to drink-driving
The centre-back, along with team-mates Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence, were involved in a car crash following a team night out in September.

The collision occurred on the A6 in Allestree, Derby before midnight on September 24.

Following last month's events, Derby boss Phillip Cocu said Keogh was "extremely down" and felt "responsible" for the incident.

The 33-year-old was under contract at Derby until 2021 and he had featured in eight Championship games for Cocu's side this season.

His two Rams teammates Bennett, 23, and Lawrence, 25, pleaded guilty to drink-driving, and were ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, given a 12-month community order and disqualified from driving for two years, following the incident.

The pair were also fined six weeks' wages by Derby and given 80-hour community service orders.

A statement from the club read: "Derby County Football Club has completed the disciplinary hearing regarding Richard Keogh in respect of his involvement in the events of Tuesday, September 24.

"As a result of that process, Mr Keogh has had his contract terminated with immediate effect for gross misconduct. He has the right of appeal within 14 days.

"As we have said from the outset, the club will not tolerate any of its players or staff behaving in a manner which puts themselves, their colleagues, and members of the general public at risk of injury or worse, or which brings the club into disrepute.

"The club will be making no further comment at this time regards this matter, until the conclusion of any potential appeal."

Keogh had featured 356 times in eight seasons at Derby and captained them to the play-off final last term.

So if either of the other 2 younger players had 1 year on their contracts and were out for 18 months do you think they'd be sacked.Especially if they had a transfer value

Nah they ain't, they are justifying it as he did wrong so we sacked him, while allowing two individuals who arguably did worse off with a slap on the wrist
