I wouldn’t say it’s 50/50 whether Ole will succeed or not. He could, I’m not gonna rule it out but it’s highly unlikely, and that’s based on trying to have a fair assessment of his time so far at United.

I also think fans from rival club can sometimes have a fairly good idea on how other teams are doing, we all have access to games and information for all clubs so it’s not like you can’t find out. I don’t support Arsenal but I can quite easily see Emery isn’t doing well and probably hasn’t got much longer at the club if he carries on the way he is.

1982. Yes you're right about other clubs fans, bit it's rare they come on with anything considered to say about him. But it has happened Tbf.

The Director of Football is not just responsible for player transfers he/she has to do so much more. That person must have the club's unforseeable future in mind (not 5 years, 10 years - but indefinitely). Every decision is based on the clubs vision, not the currect manager. DoF are specialised individuals who are the best in class in that role. You cant just put someone in whohasnt done it before (managing the first team does not make you qualified). City made sure to get the best one in Txiki or Soriano. Borussia Dortmund are the same; same goes for the like of Redbull, Porto, Benfica, Athletico etc. The clubs serious about it, get the best DoF, not just someone the fans love that will appease them.

They have to do so much more, and yet you cant say what exactly that entails apart from a vague reference to the future, which is mostly about player recruitment anyway.

Because i dont know the exact job requirement. Why are you being rude about it? Anyway there are other things like being the one who sets out the way the team plays. The rest comes from there: he/she recruits the manager to fit that, the coaching staff, the recruitment staff etc. Clearly thats not just the playing staff. Do we trust Ole or anyone who hasnt been involved in that role to do it? You have to be a coach as well as business savvy and good at dealing with people on a personal level and in a boardroom. Then again that's just my opinion. If your is that Ole is the best man for the job as DoF then that's your right lol.

Its also nice when the DoF and/or manager have the ability to draw big players to the club.
