Puigmal I like a lot. Hasn’t come on quite as quickly as I’d hoped, but he has a lot going for him.

Firstly, along with Gomes, he’s arguably the most technically proficient player in the U23 squad. His touch and short passing are excellent for his age. He strikes the ball beautifully cleanly, and shows good footballing intelligence.

Testament to that last point is that fact that he’s been used in various positions on the pitch at U18 and U23 level: primarily on the right wing and at right back most recently, but also in central midfield and in the hole. Probably only McT has been used in more positions for the junior sides in recent years.

For what it’s worth, I think he’ll end up playing as an inside forward/number ten given his physical and technical attributes.

Reminds me in some ways of Ollie Norwood if I had to compare him to another recent(-ish) Academy graduate, mainly, of course, due to his touch and delivery, but also because the biggest question marks are probably around his physical attributes. He isn’t quite as quick, sharp, strong or robust as some of his contemporaries.
