blackburn commentary was irritating but they made excellent points regarding

Our possession but lack of real chances
Vulnerability at corners

I Liked Dack since last season, would be very happy if we got him.

Can’t measure people on goals, can’t measure them on assists.....15mill, should be delivering more for that money. The question is, is it the player or is it the coach and his system?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of players struggle to adapt to Bielsa's system, but once they do, we start to see their qualities. Dallas, Harrison, Alioski and Bamford all have clearly identifiable roles in this team. Casilla is starting to prove his worth. We are a more resilient team this year - we have to be, because we are not scoring goals - but the amount of squeak in my backside has diminished considerably. Give Costa the same amount of time we have given our other new recruits. There were signs today of what he can do.

Best, I rate Costa, I think the 2 assists fur Nketiah show exactly how he should be used, but Bielsa says he can’t get best out of him in his system so why commit to largest fee for 20 years?

Bielsa, quality players fit in straight away, shouldn’t take a year for someone to fit in, maybe s foreign player playing in England first time, but quality players fit in easier.

Overall a pleasing victory albeit by a soft looking penalty. Think our game management is improving and we really didn’t look like losing the game unless they scored another set piece.
Good that we can win a game at this level with many of the players not at their best today.

Best players: white cooper Berardi Dallas Harrison and got to give credit to bamford for a wonderful assist

posted on 9/11/19

Berardi? He only played 10 minutes

And not mentioning Phillips?

Or Klich?

Or Roberts?

Hmm. Maybe I'll let you captain my subbuteo team.

posted on 9/11/19

Berardi was superb in that 10 minutes.
Phillips was ok - got beat a few times today
Klich was quiet
Roberts was really poor first 30 but got better and played ok overall

posted on 9/11/19

Phillips I’m not sure was fit today, low key by his standards (not bad by any means mind).

White is sublime ..... such a good player.

I didn’t hear Blackburn commentary, I was there, in the stands. We were threatened at one corner & they scored from it. That apart I thought we were streets ahead.

Klich anonymous? Not for me. May not be scoring but his work & input around the pitch keeps him picked for club & country every match.

Dack id love us to sign .....

Interesting that the two ex-Wolves players are struggling to adapt to Bielsa’s regime. We know both of them can play well at this level, but. Santo got a lot more out of them than Bielsa is doing at the moment.

Would take Dack a year to reach bielsas required fitness levels

People are saying how great Dack was, yet they didn't create a chance, can't have been that good, I think last two weeks we've looked a good side and we will improve again, gap starting to appear to seventh, West Brom and Fulham the dangers.

That’s like saying people say how great Philips is but we don’t score many goals....

Dack would drive us forward far more than Klich or Forshaw have this season.

posted on 10/11/19

And who's going to put the ball in the net, Jonty. Forget Dack, get Gayle. 23 in 33 appearances last season, not featuring for Newcastle at the moment. Coming back from injury, a loan spell at a proper club in January would be just right for him.

Dack and Bowen were my suggestions this summer, Keeping Roofe would have helped...

I must disagree with you there, Jonty. I liked Roofe and thought he did a great job for us for a couple of seasons but he was out with injury for critical parts of 18-19 and it seemed to me like it was the right time for him to move on. Pleased he seems to be doing well in Belgium but more pleased for Pat Bamford today putting that penalty away cool as a cucumber, like a no 9 should. He's had a problem finding the net but he really works hard and opens up huge holes. That assist today was sublime skill. I'd say Bamford works much harder for the team than Roofe did.

have to agree there Jaz, I really can;t see the point of bringing Roofe up all the time either? - for what reason?

1. Would you prefer Roofe be the back up forward, 35k per week, with 4 years sat on the bench?

2 Would Roofe be number 1? - having Bamford sat on the bench? - would Roofe work as hard as Bamford does? - could get more goals though?

that said, if money wasn't a thing, I would prefer Roofe in the squad no doubt, but its past now, how long are we going to keep talking about Roofe scoring a few in really poor league

Player isn’t in control of WHEN he gets an injury, Roofe’s goals propelled us to top, put us in commanding lead in playoffs, I think it was poor management to allow him to leave and to leave for so little, it’s no Co incidence that now we’re struggling to score goals.

Great that Bamford scored a penalty, but it’s the open play chances (and corners) he needs to put away that will make a real difference. Is that penalty enough to kickstart his goals?

Jonty, we're in third position, two points off the top with everything to play for.

It's true that Roofe didn't choose to get injured, but that's just the nature of the game. I think anyone who would choose to leave a Bielsa squad pushing for promotion rather than up his game and fight for his place in that project like all professionals should be doing is putting self before side. Roofe chose to leave, it seemed to me. That was his right and that was what he did. I think he made an intelligent choice given what might happen after Brexit.

But on reflection, I agree we let him go too cheap, like Jansson. I presume that's Kinnear? He's not very impressive in his role as a negotiator, is he?

And as far as Bamford is concerned, he really really wants success - that's why he works so hard. He desperately wants to be loved by the ER faithful. He's much hungrier that Roofe was, it seems to me.

I say "it seems to me" because to be frank I'll admit my perspective is extremely limited. I don't get to go to games and that's crucial for really seeing how the players perform.

But even so, we've the second-best GD this morning and the meanest defence in this division. It seems to me that momentum is building. A penalty conversion may well open the flood gates and change everything. Is this only wishful thinking?

on a little side note, the ER faithful have been very good to Bamford.. not getting on his case and supporting him, due to his huge effort..

well done to the Crowd I think

Roofe had year left on contract he didn’t choose to leave promotion push, the club chose to sell.

Poor management sees far too many valuable players reaching last year of contract and being sold, butbthen again selling players is what AR saud he wanted to get into football to do.

With bamford in such poor scoring form (first goal for 10 games?) the sale of Roofe serves to highlight how scarce goals are in this team and how valuable he really is.

If we go up this season maybe there is a justification, but if not then it’s really poor from the club.

I agree we’re building momentum but mean defences might prevent you losing but it’s the goals that will Win you matches, it’s a huge Achilles heel for us at present, not just bamford but lack of goals from everywhere else in the side.

Yes Bamfords trying but so dues everything other player, not sure Bamford tries harder than others, I wouldn’t mistake his relief at finally scoring as more effort than others.

The ER crowd have been right behind him, week after week from what I witness.

From the stands you really get to see the work rate the guy gives and his desire to do well. Graft without end product normally only gets you so much leeway, but I think the crowd recognise he's a decent player wanting to do well for us (and himself of course).

His reaction after converting the pen was an acknowledgment of the mutual appreciation that exists I thought.

VOF, totally agree with that.... huge balls to pick up the ball and place on the spot too.. well done Christiano Bamford

The crowd clearly recognise something in Bamford and are rightly getting behind him Jonty. He gives more to the side than just goals. Everyone knows, Bamford himself, that he needs to score more. But a notoriously tough crowd, who've given others grief in the past, aren't doing so with Bamford. There's a reason for that i'd suggest.

The rights/wrongs of Roofe going only the player and the club know for sure. But he has gone and good luck to him in Belgium. My guess is he wanted pay parity with the other top earners, the club refused (possibly due to his perceived injury prone past?). I'm sure the club would have been criticised if he was given a 4 year deal on a level with Bamford/Kiko? I get his view in wanting to leave, I get the clubs. Move on for all concerned, that's footie.

Goals may win you matches … but defences win you titles and success. It's a much used saying, but a fair bit of truth in it.
