Are we even a top 6 team though?

Whilst I tend to agree that the entitlement we feel may be excessive at times we got used to a certain level/quality of football for many years, certainly in the first half of Wenger's reign. The current expectation levels stem from this but also the size of the club and its finances; revenue, profits. Not to mention that we charge amongst the highest ticket prices in World football, I remember seeing a BBC article not too long ago that stated we were (at least at that time) in fact charging the highest globally. Whilst over-entitlement is not pretty we should also not accept failure.

I don't understand why you start to pick on Auba he's a top quality player that gets no reliable service whatsoever yet still finds a way to score goals and without whom we could well be relegation candidates currently. He was the joint Golden Boot winner last season in the PL for f**ks sake... I've seen him beat players with speed/clever runs/trickery and score goals he made himself plenty enough times. The fact that he hardly gets any service also demonstrates that he can score goals out of nothing and does.

To be fair to Auba he does very little service as we don't create much at all. Saying that, he isn't the complete striker. Yes he scores goals but his link up play is horrendous, his passing is even worse and he can't hold up play.

However, fans need to stop raving about our attack. We have 2 central strikers who can't play wide and have zero chemistry between them.

As the op suggested, a lot of the other strikers in the league offer a lot more

Aubameyang is most clinical striker in the league on expected goals. Rashford is most wasteful. Wish we had a striker like Aubameyang. Would turn us into title contenders.

We do have a terrible MF which doesn't help the strikers I guess.

And I agree, Song > Torreira, xhaka, Guendouzi

Imagine how many goals Auba would score with a good team behind him

To be fair Auba had the most quality total chances last season in the PL. Just this season he has worked wonders.

There is no disputing with Auba in front of goal Eventhough he can miss the odd sitter here and there but Vardy, Kane, Firminho, Augero, Mane, Salah offer so much more with link up play, passing, hold up play

Can we stop this silly myth about lack of chances. Its doing my head in now.
We had so many chances to be 2 or 3 nil up at Anfield and Pepe & Auba missed them.
Crystal palace 2 nil up & Guendouzi pings a long ball over the top for Auba to make it 3-0 & he fluffs it woefully. Against Leicester Lacazette had a clear cut chance to put us ahead & he missed. I can go on.
Stop with this rubbish about no chances....
Our MF is diabolical but they still create few but very good chances which the strikers are missing.

The “Logical One” questioning if Arsenal are a top 6 side when they’re 6th in the table...

If you think Arsenal are missing chances then you should watch Man Utd. We create tons more chances than Arsenal. Interestingly last few seasons Arsenal have been like near the most clinical and Man Utd the most wasteful bar the 17/18 season.

We got strikers like Rashford who score a goal every 10 chances.

Top 2 ?

Top 4 ?

Top 6 ?

I wonder who sits down and comes up with these.

Must be an Arsenal fan, since nobody bothered to extend the umbrella when Chelsea and United briefly dropped out in recent seasons.

Yeah with the players we have, we should be comfortably a top 6 team. Wouldn’t say we are top 4 standard, and a manager would do well to get this squad as it is finishing a comfortable 3rd 4th.

The midfield is poor, we have no proper DM and only one creative player who doesn’t turn up half the time. It’s very mismanaged as well, no one really seems to know their job in midfield, they’re scattered all over the place at times, and there’s huge gaps between everyone. That’s just comes from poor coaching.

The defence on the face of it aren’t terrible players. They’re kind of average defenders being made to defend far more than they should, half their challenges are always desperate and last ditch. Put the best CB in the world in this team and they’d still have a shocker every so often with this lack of protection and disorganised midfield in front of them. A better manager would find a way to ensure our average defence aren’t asked to desperately defend with basically every opposition attack

Been watching arsenal for many years. Never see a more pathetic MF.

Even players like Coquellin are better than what we currently have

There are probably 10 odd teams in the league this MF wouldn't get into

Top 6 is a meaningless term that just means there are 14 worse teams than us during any particular season. No relevance whatsoever to the grand scheme of things.

We finished in 5th place last season and were just about as many points ahead of Brighton in 17th, as we were behind City.

Just because we miss one or two chances in a few games does not mean we are making enough chances. It just means we are not taking the few chances we actually do create. We should be creating a lot more and we used to create a lot more clear-cut chances too.

Against Leicester: `Just one shot on target, our worst in the Premier League this season. Not one shot at all after the 53rd minute, Bellerin’s effort` - sounds familiar.

May as well share the rest of those too:
`This is Arsenal’s worst start to a league season since 1982-83
Arsenal have had fewer shots than their opponents in 11 of their 18 matches this season. They have out-shot their opponents away from home in just one of nine games (+1 v Sheffield United).
Our goals conceded per game (1.42) is the worst of the Premier League era`

Arsenal expected goal difference is -2.27. Spurs is -3.11. Leicester City who are like most lethal side in PL history expected goal difference is +2.51 when they just have a +21 goal difference. Man Utd expected goal difference is +10.64 but ours in reality is +4. Strange season this. Leicester City generally take any half chance they get this season.

That's because Vardy is the most prolific striker in the league. The number of times he scores with his only chance/s in a game is phenomenal and he's been doing it now for several seasons.
