John Cross for the Mirror said that supposedly Sterling squared up to him and asked if Gomez thought he was still a "big man" before trying to grab him round the throat.

If true then Southgate has got this spot on for me.

Yes, I think he has done the right thing. Sterling has been punished by being dropped for the first game, but hasn't been sent home. So he will still be around the squad and hopefully it will all be water under the bridge by the time they return to their clubs. We don't want it dragging on forever.

Its been reported on the BBC that he tried to grab him by the neck, that's good enough for me for now until I hear differently.

Again according the BBC Gomez didn't react to sterlings tantrum.

I heard on the radio that all the squad were behind Gomez and thought Sterling was out of order. He has also admitted that he was wrong and apologized.

Southgate is one of the fairest people you are likely to meet. I have no doubt that he has got the full story from all sides before making his decision and Sterling seems to have accepted his punishment without question.

Everything points to Sterling being out of order and Gomez behaving appropriately. Maybe Sterling misread Gomez and thought he was taking the p!ss or something? Either way, it appears to have been dealt with appropriately.

Yep, it isn't a big deal at all Winston. Looks to have been dealt with properly and everyone has accepted it. Time to move on and focus on the game. I am happy with Southgate has handled this though. The whole of the squad has been involved in the decision from what he has said and he has stressed how important it is to set aside club rivalries. I have no doubt that he has unlined this heavily to the squad away from the press. We know from experience how much cliques within the squad can hold us back and Southgate is doing everything he can to ensure that doesn't happen again. In the words of Brendan Rodgers "He's a wonderful human being".

Southgate should have torn a strip off them both in front of the squad and asked if it was sorted If it is, get on with it. If it's not, the guilty party goes home.

The way I see it, there's nothing wrong with being annoyed at losing a game especially coming to see a player who got into his face coming to greet him like nothing happened. We look for passion in players and that's all that is.

Anyways if it was a better team it would definitely be a different story.

Btw, HOW THE FACK IS GOMEZ IN THE NATIONAL TEAM. wasn't even sure he still played professional football.
