You are the one defining the season. Jesus you talk like some bad performances suddenly define the entire season and destiny. The extenuating circumstances at AFC are huge. Not some minor things that shouldn't cause much issue. Great big gaping holes in how we do things. All in all Emery deserves at least until xmas to turn it around. Any sacking before then is nothing more than panic. It'll bring in a panic replacement whom will just have Arsenal fans like yourself wanting him out immediately if he hasn't secured top 4 by the end of the season or the team looks shaky starting 20/21. Then what, 3rd manager in 18 months yeah???
There's one valuable thing we're missing to play on the management merry go round. The Oligarch/Sheik financing the club and paying for the conveyor belt of talent to satisfy each new manager that arrives. Teams who don't have the money to play on the ride, simply drop themselves further down the table or get relegated, after getting on. We ain't got the money. Or more correctly, Kroenke aint spanking no half a bil on players to finance playing on the merry go round for impatient Gooners. Meaning without a LONG TERM replacement and LONG TERM PLAN, sacking the manager is an utterly pointless exercise more likely to exacerbate problems not solve them. Fools rush in and all that.
"All in all Emery deserves at least until xmas to turn it around"
Deserves? Based on what?
And I haven't "defined" the season. I've highlighted some poor decisions and the trajectory we appear to be on. With a light reference to the fact that this is line with how he's performed elsewhere. I applaud your belief that this is meaningless and he should stay but I believe otherwise.
Based on the fact he only just missed out on top 4 with a half crocked squad last season. Him not making it due to Ozil not even being able to represent for one or two games in May, doesn't change the fact the he'd done well to get anywhere near 4th considering the mess he arrived to.
The back line injuries alone were enough to derail any teams CL chances. So not making it by a shade, in his first season, after inheritting a sh!t show. Really is not the huge failurr and sin you're making it out to be. Nobody even expected him to have a chance of 4th with 7 games to go, at the start of last season. Yet the second he never managed it (after surprising everyone to have us in with a good chance) suddenly you wanna be using that as a stick to beat him with.
Started last season fans just happy to not plummet down the table. Yet somehow now, people like you are mentioning last season, shifting goalposts now, talking as though he was considered dead cert gor 4th at the start of last season and blew it. It's funny how none of you lot seen at all keen on calling out the 300k a week superstar who blew it for everyone. OZIL! All he had to do was step up and be the difference for two of 7 games. Did he do it? No, instead he quit on the team when he was most needed. But you wanna PLAY that and sack the manager with the balls to tell him to go feck himself on the bench if he ain't gonna do as he's told. Go figure.
Shifting goalposts? Find ONE post where I was gung ho for Emery in comparison to now. I'll wait.
Him just missing out on top 4 is down to a total capitulation. You make it sound like he almost had it and it slipped away rather than him ballsing it completely! And apparently I'm changing the narrative! .
For all his faults, Ozil is one man. Emery can't manage THE TEAM!!
As I said, you believe what you believe and good for you.
I never said you were gung ho for him. The shifting goalpost is start of last season zero expectation. To end of last season becoming he ballsed it up??? If there was zero expectation at the start of the season then can't really criticise too much for not accomplishing the top four you weren't even dreaming of to start off. Nothing to do with gung ho for. You're pretending you started last season expecting to get 4th place when you straight up bloody well didn't. NO Arsenal fan was seeing 4th as a genuine option until Emery made it seem possible. Yet ya here moaning like you expected to be getting it from the start.
The capitulation WAS OZIL! That was the change that saw results tip the wrong way. NOTHING ELSE! It was a straight swap mate. Team was 3rd when Ramsey got injured. That same team you reckon Emery couldn't manage. The only change for those last few games was Ozil in for inured Ramsey. And it was those last few games that saw us fall from 3rd to 5th. Remember straight swap. Ramsey in team headed for 3rd. Ozil instead and team got nothing.
But yeah you go ahead and blame the manager and everyone else in the team except the 300k a week who fecked ya side out of a shock, unexpected CL return. Because we can't possibly make Ozil shoulder the brunt of the blame. Even though his lack of basic effort, was the one single biggest individual factor in us not getting 3rd place. Every other fecker at the club struggled by, busting a gut, having to make the best of it. His turn came and he done NOTHING! Decent non hiding performances from him would almost certainly have seen us finish 3rd. You can blame the manager all you want but he had no choice, had to play Ozil. Mesut Ozil was the one who took to the pitch and ed up the place for 7 games. Costing us 3rd. NOT EMERY!
Emery has his flaws for sure. But the bottom line is it's our so called marquee superstar failing to step up play like he can, that is the reason for dropping from 3rd to 5th. Emery and the others, allbeit shambolically at times, THEY all did their bit. 300k a week , simply had to bring it on home for you and HE FAILED TO DO SO!
What's wrong with your brain WB2?
Whatever you think of Ozil he is one player, he doesn't pick the line up, he doesn't choose (the wrong) tactics, he doesn't make poor subs etc etc etc.
We have a manager who isn't good enough, we gave him well over a year with a squad far better than what Wenger had toward the second half of his reign and there are no signs he knows how to get the best out of it.
I specifically mean signs, not results, we are seeing nothing in the way of an approach that could lead to success, it's clueless management from a bloke out of his depth.
Scruttocks
Why you all so obsessed with giving Ozil a free pass for crapping away CL football. If the bloke was truly that clueless and incompetent then he couldn't possible have gotten that sh!t show last season as far as he did.
I cannot see how you all saw the team set to do it. All saw Ozil do feck all for 7 games. But somehow you're all mad at the coach because Ozil failed to play. Emery's choices and decisions got us to third. The decision made which was responsible for us coming fifth was a decision forced upon him by the injury. Fact is if Ozil hadn't been a and had played to even 70% of what he's capable of. The team would have made it.
If people wanna be mad about the last 12 games fine but trying to say Emery was useless last season is taking the p!ss. Ya basically using the last 7 games, where he was forced to pick the man who blew everyone's hard work, to erase his hell of an achievement up to that point. 31 games for Emery to get us to 3rd and 7 games where Ozil not turning up, throwing CL football away.
Comes down to one question IMO. Do you believe that if Ramsey had played those 7 games, we would still not be in CL this year. For me the answer is a firm yes, without doubt. If you agree then Emery can't be blamed for last season. Because if we could have done it with Ramsey, then it was possible to do with Ozil, wasn't it. It can't ne “Emery was a dude with 7 games to go and us in third.” But Ozil blows last 7 then suddenly its “Oh Emery was incompetent buffoon for a year.” Most he's guilty of is stuffing up THIS season so far. Last season he COMPETENTLY got a team which had no business being there given the chaos, one hand on CL football. Some fans might not have like the footy cos it wasnt sexy lime Wengers. But the job was getting done. Right up until it came time for Mesut Ozil to do his.
Some people may be pining after Ozil, I am certainly not one of them. This does however make more sense now, you've seen people be angry about Emery's handling of Ozil and then gone on a massive assumption that this is peoples problem.... but that isn't linked to how most people feel about Emery at all.
For the record I would love to see Ozil shipped out, his wages are a detriment to the club, hampering potential negotiations with other players and of course simply taking huge amounts of money of the club for very little return.
The issues with Emery go so far beyond that it's barely even relevant in the grand scheme of things. He's a tactical shambles, there's no direction, no improvement in any area, nothing to get interested in. Yes we got to the Europa final beating Napoli and Valencia, that's not too shabby but FFS that's 4 games where we did well enough to beat decent sides albeit ones operating on a fraction of our budget. Then when we came up against a side on a more equal standing we got destroyed anyway (having bottled an easy league run in for fourth).
*firm no. We would not still have no CL footy
So 31 games to 3rd was just dumb luck? No I see people's problem. We're not winning. And even when we do it's not pretty like Arsene's teams done it. The general over arching “Not pleased with Emery” I get. Largely stopped defending him for dumb stuff. However I object to anyone using last season to justify their case necause last season he was a debut foreign manager who dragged his weak squad to unexected CL qualification. Only to have his highest paid player let him, the rest pf the team and the Arsenal fans down.
Whether you like how he done it or not, doesn't change the fact that up until Ozil flopped we were in a 3rd place that every Gooner would have bitten your arm off for at the start of the season and few to none cared HOW we'd gotten there.
Nobody would be saying a word about last season had Ozil done his job. And right now peeps would just be mad about this seasons 12 games. I admit I recall you've never liked him. But plenty I see screeching for his sacking. Never had sh!t to say about last season...last season. They were happy enough, just feeling sick because we all knew deep down it was over when Ramsey got injured. So it bugs me when I see those people now posting crap about last season. And the lack of fan backlash against Ozil for his pitiful showing utterly disgusts me. Seeing Arsenal fans actually saying he should play in the shirt again after seeing what he done last season. Whilst simultaneously claiming we should sack the manager. The mind boggles at just how these people wanna be so ruthless with the manager who got lumbered yet seem to have limitless forgiveness for the superstar leech who's bleeding their supposed beloved club dry. Dude neen a for for years before Emery arrived, fecks us last season too. And we should play him but sack butvsackthe manager.
You scruttocks I just disagree with. I believe he should get until the window. But as for most. They just fulla crap Wenger brats, spitting their dummies because this is coach no 1. Proving them all full of sh!t when they were giving it Wenger Out, he's an idiot, anyone could do better. They're all just mad because Emery is proving just how dumb they were for thinking that. Actually don't know why they're all rushy rushy. Another failure after this and they'll truly be branded idiots. Not to mention probably feeling incredibly dumb too.
The fact that you think all of Arsenal's woes are solely Özil's fault is why I can't with you. That you think I am somehow his biggest supporter and forgetful of his flaws is ridiculous. I said above "For all his flaws" as a summary because I wasn't about to waste time talking about him... he's not the point of the conversation.
And then that rambling about how good Emery was and how he's only screwed up THIS season?! Wow. Just wow...
How is being 3rd part way through season even a thing? A season is 38 games long and we finished right about where our performances led us. That's a season with United, Spurs and Chelsea all performing terribly.
Also, this has nothing to do with Wenger either, i've not read anyone comparing him to AW.
He's doing chit all on his own, we can all see that and the fact that you are trying to pin it on 1 PLAYER only, is madness imo.

Only pinning last seasons failure to reach CL on Ozil for context of this debate. Ozil blew last season, Emery stuffing this one up. Ergo, if you're one saying “Sack him” then that HAS to be a stance of. “He's been rubbish this season sack him.” Few want to do that necause considering just this season. Easy to argue sacking someone after 12 games is harsh to dumb. So SOME people (not scruttocks, think he actually wanted him gone by xmas last year) are very shadily IMO, now attempting to cite last season. For them, just because it sounds better if you say “He's been awful the entire time” So I say using last season to beef case is BS unless you were saying sack him last season. Most weren't though. Were too busy enjoying the prospect of CL again and wondering how the feck we had any shot at all still, come game 25 let alone 31.
Anyone happy at game 31 (as the vast majority were from what I saw) has no business mentioning last year as evidence to sack him. Because last years evidence shows (whether you like how he done it or not) that he does indeed have the ability to get us to CL. And I say that based on the fact the results he got and table at the time had us there. That didn't change until Ozil replaced Ramsey.
It's not Emery is no problem and Ozil is to blame for all. It's Emery's looking bad this season but last season was pulling a miracle out his ass until Ramsey could go no longer and he was forced to use Ozil. Dunno why people are trying to pretend that Ozil disappearing whilst playing instead of Ramsey for that last 7, had no baring on the failure blamed on Emery. Course it did and all of you know it. Because as I said, we all knew deep down it was over the minute we saw Ramsey was out of those 7 games. Same way we're all pretty sure that had Ramsey stayed fit. CL was a given and it was a simple matter of 3rd automatic or 4th and an extra game to get there. Ozil and his weakass disappearing sh!t cost us 2 places and fecked up CL. NOT the manager being rubbish all season. You all watched the boy not play. Barely done a dam thing. Couldn't even throw in 2 efforts against smaller sides, to play CL (don't care does he, HE'S getting CL superstar cash whether we make it or not). Blame for that lays squarely at the players feet. Manager had it covered til he had to use that
If Özil is the problem, so is Pepe, and Torreira, and the central defence. And Emery oversees them and so is at least as culpable as all of them if not more.
I expect the team will stay with the setup for the Leicester game. Bellerin and/or Tierney in for Chambers and/or Kolasinac and the side staying that way a while, bringing improve results overall with it. I'm not as bothered as everyone else seems to be. Not so much freat faith in Emery as “Meh, they'll all snap out of the funk soon enough.” I'm not going mad about it before xmas though.
