Stefan Maierhofer! I'd forgotten all about him.

Great article Gem

It really is amazing the things that having Billionaire owners helps us avoid.

It shows how many 'young talents' end up falling down the leagues quickly.

Interesting to see only one of them is in the Premier league these days as well

More failures than positives in that list as far as doing things for Wolves is concerned. I think there were positive times for SEB, Kightly, Doyle, Fletcher, Griffiths, Keogh, Dicko and Afobe. And I think the likes of Vokes, Bodvarsson, Zyro and maybe Sigurdarson we never really got the best out of. The rest of them didn’t really have Wolves careers of any value

Would say Fletcher was probably the best of that lot with first year Doyle on the same level though a shame he went backwards year on year through little fault of his own.

SEB my fave from that lot though

Steven Fletcher still well loved at Wednesday

It's difficult to see why you sing Leon's praises Cinci. For me he is the ultimate journeyman who has failed tod deliver almost everywhere he has been.
He has played for 17 clubs in a 16 year career and his stats tell the true story.

Premier League: Appearances 1, Goals 0 0%
Championship: Appearances 261, Goals 57 21%
League 1: Appearances 173, Goals 78 45%
League 2: Appearances 6, Goals 1 16%
Division 3: Appearances 4, Goals 0 0%

This would seem to indicate quite clearly that League 1 is his level and he is only in the Prem by default as the team he currently plays for won promotion.
I suspect he will be moving on (downwards) again soon.

I only jest Gem, he is a nobody to me in truth. It does amuse me the abuse he gets/got from a few experts on here though when he has had a very long and fruitful career, something in itself that deserves a lot of credit and even since leaving us a second time he became one of the top scorers in the championship in a season despite apparently being a pub player not good enough for league one

And yeah i suspect he will move downwards soon gem, he is 34

If I could sign now any of those when at his prime I think only one would survive in our current squad . . .

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake

My second choice would be Kevin Doyle though I can't really see how he would fit into our current system.

Fletcher, highly over-rated for me.

posted on 16/11/19

I dunno, i think first year Doyle would have worked. Fletcher also could have worked to a degree, in his prime likely a better version of Cutrone.

posted on 16/11/19

Agree with you wulfrun, can’t say i was ever a fan of Fletcher. Doyle the pick of the list to me, our best player in those Premier League years to me.

Seb was a top finisher in his day and such a shame his broken leg ruined his career. Kightly another who was so good to watch on his early years with us before injuries took their toll

posted on 16/11/19

Fletcher had 22 goals in 61 prem games for us.

Raul closing in with 18 in 50 games

very very similar records scoring wise.

posted on 16/11/19

Massive gulf in quality though but credit where its due given the mediocrity that surrounded Fletcher compared to Raul

Fletcher would score 10 a season with his head from corners with Moutinho providing the balls.
Oh but I forgot, they're not proper goals are they?

posted on 16/11/19

Well this thread is rumbling along quite nicely, think I'll add the list of defenders tomorrow.

This is exactly it, any big oaf with a head can score from headers, just look at Carroll, Holt, Beattie. Score plenty but none in the same class as Jimenez.

Looking into "where are they now", I've found Dave Edwards. He's commenting in the Sky studios on the Wales match right now. Looks very smart. Eloquent too.

Proves my point, any old shat can score with headers.

I see dear Dave managed a goal for Shrewsbury this midweek, was probably a header.
