I'm not against religion being taught at school as long as it's for literary purposes and not history.

How little you know about schools and education if you are creating an article to have a pop at Catholic schools

I'd suggest you are a bigot if your idea of fun article starts with Catholicism

Religion and School should be kept separate.
Get all the kids going to the same schools for academic learning and they can pray to the Flying Spagetti Monster at the weekend.

I'm thinking of starting my own religion/cult;

1. I'll be the Grand Master
2. Only nubile you women under the age of 25.
3. Lots enlightenment sessions.
4. Tax exempt of course.
5. Gullible with low self esteem is a bonus.

Baws

Religion should be taught in school like any other subject and especially with regards to history.

How can you reach someone the history of our country and indeed that of the entire UK and the world itself without recognising the role religion affected every single aspect of it?

From the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, ancient Americans and every single society through birth of Christianity and it’s affects and changes still taking place and affecting our world today.

For many cultures up until now religion has been a core of their society. I always found it weird at school that we never learn about the Church of Scotland and the reformation. I don’t know what the catholic school syllabus is now so hopefully they’ve rectified that, but spending 3 months learning about Judaism and 0 on CoS can hardly be the best way to prep our kids for life in Scotland.

And baws to you too, good sir.

Should we be teaching the creation story as history? the flood nonsense?

Not as anything other than “bible stories”, no.

If at all.

And a good morning to you too

I'm fine with schools teaching religion with an *

The * being that they tell the kids that it's all a bunch of sh!te at the end instead of teaching it like it's fact, I sent my oldest daughter to a non denominational school for that reason and I was surprised that she is still learning all the same stuff they taught when I was at a Catholic school as thought it's a fact.

Its a pretty negative headline.
The real stories are that nearly two thirds of them dont have sectarian views and even those who do tend not ti be extreme.

Thats not much of a headline though.

I think its pretty encouraging.

The Great Flood is recorded in every great civilization the world over Ath - looking more like a metor impact that caused it apparently. They're finding new evidence all the time.

Agreed.
And as expected, most of the bigots dont practice any religion.
