To be fair the first thing I did after reading it was search 'Shankland' on twitter for an update as I was scheidting it that you were right

I have heard from a pretty solid source that Shankland has a £500k release clause.

It was supposedly one of the reasons he agreed to sign for United - so they wouldn't make it too difficult for him to get his move if he was a roaring success.

If its true you have to think he will be gone in Jan.

He signed for United for the £3000 a week wages, not a release clause.

If it's true....

I'm hopeful/mildly confident he'll stay for the season but I suppose it depends on what offers he gets.

If it was on Crimewatch, don't phone the number and tell them.

Of course £3k a week was part of it.

Point was he supposedly insisted on the release clause and that was a key condition for him signing.

I'm not at all surprised that he would have a release clause - i would expect it. The value of that release clause is the bigger issue. I'd be surprised if it was as low as £500k though.

We'll find out in January I suppose. No point in stressing about it now.

Could be 500K if they don't get promoted maybe.

I'd hazard a guess he'll have bids in January anyway but i think he will stay until the summer unless Celtic or Rangers come calling.

Every chance both of us will bid.

Just remember how much Rangers hate you guys Ivan

It'll depend on the player himself what happens really.

I think the club will take a hardline approach as we really, really don't want to sell him because we really, really want to get promoted this year. It's very crucial in fact.

So unless he rocks the boat and demands a transfer I *think* we'll try to keep him until the summer - and all the chat around the city is that he is happy to stay and get us promoted.

Around the city? Have you asked the guys at the bike maintenance bit within Halfords before making this sweeping statement?

They were the first people I asked, obviously.

A straight swap probably makes most sense given the similarity in fees/wages, etc.

I don't think Shankland will go, the new D Utd owners seem happy to be chucking money at it, don't see why all of a sudden they will be desperate for money over success.

Did fine without him on Sat anyway, add to that the lad and good luck to him is in the 2nd tier, not sure why everyone is convinced he will be rattling them in a step above.

He scored for Scotland on the international stage so proved he can do it at the highest level. Not just against garbage defences.
