I see that I have managed to pick up a Basingstoke Town tag for this Article and I might lose the whole thing if I try to get rid of it. Quelle debacle!

1-0, Whiteman, Taylor

I said I’d perhaps write a few more lines about this cup-tie and here they are.

Our opponents are probably a better team than their current league position suggests and there was evidence of this on Saturday at Blackpool where they lost, but not badly.

In Forss they have the EFL’s Young Player for October on loan from Brentford but they have not permitted his employment in the cup, which is a drawback.

At Blackpool they put their emphasis on defence according to the local press, although the manager spoke of their intention to play a more enterprising game. Indeed, afterwards, he talked as though they had a plan, but that it did not quite work.

He has only been in post for a month or so and results have improved and they have not conceded too many goals recently and their big defenders look strong under pressure against the better teams.

So it seems that the manager is still working on systems, but did affirm his commitment to attacking football. In a cup tie you assume they will have to come out anyway as a draw is no good, but completely open football seems unlikely.

I see Rovers have been working on alternative attacking options too and it would be a good opportunity to test them out.

All in all we should have a good chance of a win, so instead of 2-0, I’ll go for 4-0 and change from Taylor to Wright/Anderson for the first.

I'll go with the same score as I said for the first game: Dons 1 Rovers 2. I'm disappointed that Amos did not keep his places as he played well. I was going to say Sadlier, but see he is on the bench, so I'm going with Copps to score the first.

#26 for ever!

Wimbledon have some good players, and there was next to nothing in it in the first half. Despite not playing particularly well in the first 45, in the second half Coppinger scored a superbly taken goal from a terrific defence splitting pass into the penalty area. His balance and control are, as ever, phenomenal. Wimbledon then had to come out and play, giving Rovers room, and they took full advantage. The second goal was a thing of high speed beauty, down the right wing - Dieng to Halliday, to Taylor to Coppinger who crossed for Bingham to tap in. In the last section of the game Rovers created chance after chance, with the Wimbledon goalie and defence defending with desperation. The only starting players who didn't have a comfortable night were Gomes, who doesn't, yet, shine when playing further forward and Thomas. Thomas is big and strong but not quick. He holds the ball up, drawing fouls, but you can't see him scoring many goals. A work in progress. Rakish Bingham, who replaced him, looked like the real deal. Fast, makes good decisions and gets shots on goal. No extra time on a cold night. Result.

Note to admin. Again the text was flagged for inappropriate content without any clue about what was causing the offence. Changing Copps to Coppinger did the trick. Really?

Thanks Artfold. Gomez is certainly being given a generous opportunity to "develop".

I too sympathise with Amos, who is has surely shown sufficient reliability to be given an opportunity at least from the bench.

It does seem as though Bingham can play up front and if the player in that role does not have speed, he needs a good deal of skill to compensate.

I have numerous memories of Rovers players blazing shots over the bar from the kind of cross that Bingham converted.

Am I allowed to sat Bingham could be a dark horse?

Bolton virtually let off scott free! Whilst its great for their fans it doesn't address the advantage clubs who played their youth team have over clubs that now have to play their full strength team. The only fair way to address that would be to scrub the results and replay them.

It seems totally unfair to see Rovers cast as the villians in the Bolton affair. When teams are unable to field a team for whatever reason and the EFL havent agreed a postponement then the game should be awarded to the other team. There is even a precedent for this in the league. Scunny v Exeter 73/74 season. Exeter couldnt field a team due to illness. The League refused to allow a postponment and awarded the game to Scunny and fined Exeter. The whole sorry Bolton saga can be blamed on the EFLs ineptitude and procrastination.

I'm disgusted with the EFL - perhaps it is a case "the likes of Doncaster"...!
