"Oh my f**king God," Musk nervously said, live on the stream, after the front window shattered into a million pieces.

To be fair, as much as my first reaction was WTF It has got some impressive stats, and I can see creating a cult following.

I think I drove that in the 90s when Virtua Racing was released for Sega. Tough when you only have 18 polygons to work with.

I quite like it. Looks like it should be in Total Recall or something. It has some real personality

What it looks like with different colours

I'd be very surprised if something so pointy passes pedestrian safety laws.
Not to mention the difficulty of getting pointy panels like that to line up nicely.

I'm sure the straight lines is a result of the stainless steel alloy they are using, not an easy material to mould into complex shapes.

I'm also sure there will be some tweaks to the design, before it comes to market.

I must admit, my initial reaction was WTF but the design has grown on me, and watching the tug of war, the F150 looked very old fashioned compared with the Tesla.

If I was in the market for a pickup, Tesla gets my vote. Or maybe I could talk Hitler into loaning me one of his

Engineering Explained did a good breakdown as to why that video proves absolutely nothing: https://youtu.be/jzKCJsou10w

TL;DW: the Cybertruck is very heavy and has 4-wheel-drive.

This seems to be such a weird step for Tesla. The total lack of styling, the relatively expensive nature of the truck, the glass smashing, the misleading marketing gimmicks, plus unlike the Model 3 which cost $1000 to pre-order, this is a $100 dollar fully-refundable pre-order. The numbers aren't so impressive in that context.

I just wonder why in making such a name for themselves in producing nice but incredibly normal cars that just happen to be electric, why on Earth they'd go down this route. Many people still think it's all just a prank!

Yes I saw that Hobo, and as you say it's a publicity stunt.
What hit me most when I watched the tug of war was how old fashioned the Tesla made the F150 look.

That was what I was trying to show.

Oh as for the rest of your post Hobo, It's simple marketing, The truck market is huge in America, If Tesla had followed the normal route, other than being electric, it wouldn't have stood out.

It's fair to say the truck went viral, and everyone who is interested knows about it, including the glass etc. A lot of people have come to love the look, and one thing is for sure it will turn heads.

Basically they wanted to build a tough electric truck, The Stainless steel alloy they are using to make it tough, also rules out complex shapes, hence the straight lines, and styling.

The pre orders simply show a demand, If even half of those come to pass, then it would have been a successful launch.

This video is doing the rounds, many saying it's fake, but either way it does show how different it would look on the road, compared to anything else we have out there.https://www.instagram.com/p/B5UMXRygdL0/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=embed_video_watch_again

Some custom possibilities.

This Truck is a customisers dream.

Does anyone think it looks a bit daft? A little bit like the Dream car Homer Simpson came up with. I'm wondering how it made it off the drawing board if I'm honest.
