How confident are you feeling?

It is hard to see why we would suddenly improve, but you never know what weight has been lifted off some players shoulders.

Will Ljungberg go bold and pick the front 4 of Auba, Laca, Ozil and Pepe?
Will he drop Luiz and Sokratis and go with Chambers and Holding?
Will he put some of the youngsters he nutured last season into the starting XI?

Because we played on Thursday, he has only been working with a section of the first team squad which may inhibit any desire to do something radical.

Not really expecting major changes, not really expecting Pepe to suddenly find form, or Ozil to show desire, or any CB partnership to suddenly look solid.

But I do hope it happens!

Norwich 1-5 Arsenal.

Indeed, he could go even bolder and go with Martinelli or Saka along with the other 4 and channel the spirits of Ardiles and Keegan...

I hope he just takes the shackles off and we press more aggressively and play with a new desire. Most importantly plays players in the right position.

Why didn't he do that when Wenger was boss?

Every new manager deserves a honeymoon period. Freddie could lose the next 10, and the jury would still be out in my book.

The only thing I ask for is an increase in player workrate. No more walking around with their hands on their hips waiting for the opposition to misplace a pass.

If I were Freddie I would play this team:

............ Leno...........

Bellerin......Holding......Luiz......Tierney

............Torreira.........

Saka.......Ozil.......Pepe

Aubameyang...,,Lacazette

He has been instrumental in us winning many FA Cups and finishing top four apart from Wenger’s last season.

If I had to name a midfielder who has been instrumental is winning us FA Cups it would certainly be Ramsey.

That is like saying he was instrumental in getting us to the Europa final last season.

My fear is that until a new manager comes in we won't see that big surge/uplift in player performances because they are already accustomed to Freddie, he already has a good idea of their abilities so the sense that they all have to prove themselves to him is certainly going to be a lot less than it will be when the next manage arrives. I just hope the players like him, have a good bond with him and will play for him and for pride.

I think the initial lift is more a lifting of doom caused by the previous manager rather than anything a new manager does, tbh.

One thing that will be interesting is goal kicks. Hopefully Freddie has told them to stop facking around.

Big difference between playing out from the back and what we do at goal kicks.

What other option does he have? We have next to zero aerial presence outside our collection of CBs. Every single ball we boot up the pitch is lost.

Same problem Emery had.

It isn't always about winning the first ball. And when Martinez plays we see a massive difference in the range of passing. We are usually a more offensive team when Martinez plays.

Distribution out from the back doesn't have to be a long ball or trying to play out from the 'back' there are other options if the movement is good. We need wingers not wing-backs and the ability to get the ball to them quickly.

Yes, that's how he had the reserve team playing. Lots of pressing and playing out from the back too.

posted on 30/11/19

The worst thing about Leno is it is almost every single time and no variety. That just means there is no jeopardy in the opponents pressing.
With Martinez, he changes it around and gives opponents something to think about. That means when he does play it short, the opposition aren't neccesarily pushed up.

posted on 30/11/19

So long as he realises the need to have a midfield/wingers to help the defenders play out from the back we should be ok, trying to play out from the back (and often through the middle) when you have no real midfield was Emery's stupidity.

I know this will come across as unfair on Emi, but anyone could look good playing against non-PL sides.

I'd like to see him repeatedly try to find an outlet while playing with teammates who don't even want the ball.
