Manager might as well have been Emery today

Dont agree really the first half was much better. The second half was poor but really he's worked with them for one session all he can do in the short term is try and change the players mindset. Then slowly try to instill the way he wants to play into the players over the next few weeks. I dont agree with the subs he made though.

Emery was sacked 60 hours before kick off. Of course it was similar to recent games.

The subs didn't have to be the same

The game was actually enjoyable to watch

He’s had one training session, it’ll take longer than that to sort things out. Realistically it was never going to be be dramatically different in this fixture. Maybe as well he thought he can’t change things massively because that might cause more confusion as there’s no time to practice it.

I’ll be more concerned if it’s the same in the Brighton game. But I would agree the subs were disappointing. We looked bit better going forward and we controlled the game better than usual. The defenders are just a joke, it’ll take a proper defensive coach and new defenders to sort that. We dropped off in the second half and couldn’t get much passing together at all, which was poor. We missed having decent fall backs, their delivery today was atrocious. Tiredness may also be a factor for us in the second half.

Brighton needs to be much better though, it’s at home we should have a few players back. I’ll be very disappointed if we see xhaka and mustafi still starting. They will never be the answer

We have Bould and BFG working as coaches at the club. I've never understood why they just don't spend "x" number of training sessions just working on the defence. If they're not up to it then bring in some specialists . It really isn't that difficult to organise a defence .

In parallel we need to instruct Torreira to play as a DMF and screen the defence and we need the rest of the MF to transition the ball forwards much faster . Laca and PEA need to work harder and make better runs and Ozil and Pepe need to find them. See, Football is not that complicated.

Reverting the 1st team to the way the youngsters were all raised playing, he himself used to play and most of the first team were used to playing anyway. Isn't as big a task for Freddie as everyone seems to think. This team can't play in these wingless formations. They go against everything everyone done the last 20 years and it won't be any different until we have a bunch of players with the right skillset and mindset to play wingless.

All Freddie needs to do is pick a winged formation, get Ozil, Xhaka and Liuz out of the side, put Torriera at DM and tell the team “Go play attacking football” The players will take care of the rest. These formations are just playing the “Bash a square peg in a round hole” game but with overall tactics and the 11 as opposed to individual players.

Yes our defenders are rubbish still but with wide attackers and no Ozil we can press the ball far more effectively, greatly increasing our posession thus reducing the number of chances the opposition gets at our weakass defence. Also Torreira at DM over Xhaka means any combo of the CBs excluding Luis immediately becomes a stronger defensive unit than we have now. We always had weak defences under Wenger, that's why we kept the ball so much and attacked. Wenger's problem was no Torriera like player as good as Torriera is and not top draw striker to get goals from all the possession due to pressing so well. Since we now have two of football's best strikers and the DM problem solved. Right now moving away from the way he played makes no sense at all. Far better to go back to it, inserting the fixes to his two biggest problems, the DM and the marquee striker. At least until we can buy new CBs.

What we need is a root and branch purge of anyone remotely associated with defensive training at the club.

The past 15 years have seen us bring in a stream of otherwise normal defenders and completely ruin them.

An industrial machine that de-programs all their natural defensive instincts and instead brainwashes them into an unending pursuit of protecting a predetermined patch of turf. Zonal defence taken to the Nth degree.

Just look at us today. Our defensive players were more focused on tracking back to their "zones" rather than actually trying to get the ball off the advancing Norwich players.

The club probably has them listening to a continuous loop of "Thou shalt first of all run back to coordinate X and Y and stand there pointing a finger, job done."

Having said that, it would be hypocritical of me not to admit that our Offside Trap has always been a work of art.

"Go and play attacking football" with our most creative player in Özil out of the side. Makes a lot of sense that.

At least the first half an hour. Second half we were poor.

Sokratis isnt on the best form and Mustafi has done well in the second string so can live with that choice. The big one for me is wtf did he play Xhaka. Poor on both goals. Before Torreira came on everything was going down the middle and we couldnt cope. once Torreira came on they went down their left and targetted Chambers instead. He wasnt the best but we didnt concede then.

When Torreira came on.....nothing really changed. They broke easily through our midfield. Chambers was absolute shambles and Mustafi turned out to be Mustafi again. Unfortunately on the side where Chambers couldnt keep the ball for 1 second.

Xhaka wasnt our worst player today. Here I said it.

WHAT CREATIVITY? He doesn't DO anything and hasn't for years. His creativity is only of any use if he makes the effort to play. Why don't you get it? Ozil can have all the creativity in the universe but it doesn't mean a damn thing if he does have the will to use it.

Example, if his lazy ass would work to press the ball in the attacking half, LIKE HE IS SUPPOSED TO! Then he would find himself winning/getting the ball with the opposition wrong/back footed and his attackers steaming up behind him, alot more than he does. Defence all over the gaff and support surging behind him...THAT'S where he does his thing best.

The best AM's in the world create half the situations they get assists from, as a result of their DEFENSIVE work rate. They WIN/STEAL the ball for themselves, during the high press. Ozil's numbers truly would be off all charts, if he would do that too. And in all honesty, the game has evolved further now. To the point where no top team can afford to carry out and out “I ain't defending” MFs. Messi and Ronaldo both getting stuck in when they're ready, put an end to those days. Lazy defensive passengers aren't acceptable if you wish to challenge at the top.
