Good news for us.

I sympathise with Solskjaer. He’s inherited a difficult job and has very little experience, at least of anything on this scale. Key players have also been injured (Pogba, Martial, McTominay...) Ins and outs have been OK - not perfect - but we needed at least two more summer signings.

I have a feeling his days are numbered though. We will probably draw at best with Spurs and then lose by at least two at City. That would be 2/3 points from 12 and I think the club would act.

I see so many kids playing for United.

We've been unlucky with injuries, no doubt about it. Losing McT as we were building momentum and his partnership with Fred was getting bad was a tough one.

I don't like what ifs in football... But if we hadn't lost our leads in the last two games, we'd be 3 points off CL spots and all the doom mongers would be quiet.

getting better*

In my view we have to at least stick with Ole through the January transfer window.

If we bring in a new manager before January then we won't spent in January - the new manager won't have time to identify targets and we'll simply be hoping they can do something for the rest of the season with this poor squad. If a new manager coming in was inheriting a really good team you could make a case, but I genuinely think anyone coming in would struggle at this point.

So given the case, let's see the transfer window out. If we sign a couple of good players, we'll better be able to judge Ole. If we don't sign anyone then results and performances will continue and the board will have a decision to make.

If we sign players and things still look awful, then at least a new manager might have a couple of good players added to the team.

But I don't see any value in changing manager in this exact moment. Getting Pogba & McTominay back in the team asap is crucial now, plus a couple of good players in January.

Yea. In both games. And that is his weakness. Holding on to a lead.

I think Ole has said its touch and go. Pogba also has a chance of making the bench.

If neither are fit, Spurs will turn us over quite comfortably I think.

As for the article, agree with most of it.

It's . his and the team's weakness.

Ole can't be accountable for Williams not stepping out with the rest of the defenders... It's just a harsh part of the learning curve young players.

I can understand people's frustrations, and to be honest I'm not sure Ole will see the fruits of his labour as manager. I absolutely agree with the OP though. We get caught up comparing ourselves with instant success stories like Leicester. We are in a different situation. We need an entire rebuild on and off the pitch which will hopefully include some of the young players we have seen this season.

January will tell a story. We need reinforcements, that much I'm sure everyone can agree on. If Ed dithers or doesn't sign the cheques to make it happen then what chance has anyone got

I'm sure Pogba will be desperate to play this one if at all possible and put in a big performance.

Worth remembering we were behind in both games, though, and second best for large parts - we could as easily have lost both as won both.

Then why sign Harry Maguire?

If slabhead got injured and we didn’t loan out Mike we’d arguably have a stronger defence. We wouldn’t be able to bring the ball out from defence though like we do so much now we have slabhead.

Smalling should be partnering Maguire in my view.

Also I don't think our defence is poor. Our midfield, which puts pressure on our defence. It's one of the reasons I felt we needed to sort midfield above all else in the summer.

It’s no better than it was despite spending £125m on it.

posted on 2/12/19

We had the second best defence only 2 seasons ago, it was never that terrible, it was just very average and we’ve not really made it much better even with £125m spent on it. It’s always been the midfield that’s been the big problem and we made it weaker over the summer.

Throw in the couple of missed penalties early in the season....

All ifs and buts tho

Agree with everything in the op... Can't be happy with where we are but there's a bigger picture

If we had a coaches that new how to improve players and teach tactics then we wouldn't be in this mess. By enlarge we have had a good squad over the last few years but players that have joined us have either stagnated at the same level or become worse. Klopp, poccetino, and pep not only get their teams ticking (unlike.ours who like headless chickens in attack) but also improved individualswell above the standard at which they arrived at the club. We've not been capable of that for some time.

Because we haven't got a midfield. Defending is about the collective. You could pick the best RB, LB, and two CB's in the world and stick them behind Mata, Fred & Pereira and they're going to struggle to keep teams at bay.

On top of that, Williams is very, very raw defensively and Lindelof is too easily bullied. We'd look a bit better defensively with Shaw & Tuanzebe (or Smalling) but again, with this midfield we're easy to get at.

So surely it was a bit of a waste then if better midfield reinforcements would have improved our midfield, defence and attack.

Yes we could do with improving our defence but prioritising it over midfield as well as spending a world record fee for Maguire was poor decision making by Ole and Ed.
