Football on Amazon

Finlay has nailed it. Look at the issues they had in Australia with the World Cup being given to a streaming service and having to be given back to broadcasters mid-tournament. There have been similar issues with Amazon and FB when they’ve dabbled in sport. The networks can’t handle all of that simultaneous traffic yet.

It's only the UK that currently gets ripped off in fairness. $15AUD per month for all games live, on demand, long and short highlights. The UK market needs to be regulated with a set maximum cost to the consumer

Didn’t realise Jeremy Corbyn was on here!

Does anybody know if it is locked to UK IP address or can it be watched in other countries?

Saw this question on Twitter replied and Amazon replied said it was only available in the UK.

Might need to try a VPN then. Bloody speed here isn't great already so it may not work too well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably won't be any better than a dodgy stream.

Worst thing people can do is start paying money or even watching these matches via their prime account. Encouraging another player to take a share of this market simply facks the fans over even more

Which is exactly why I will be handing my Firestick over to a dodgy man this evening so that I can watch all footy for free. It is getting beyond a joke now. I already have sky and BT and now Amazon are in the mix. It is taking the micky. Time for the Premier League to start their own TV subscription. There is a huge amount of money there for them to be made if they cut out the TV channels and sell the product themselves. Madness that it hasn't been done yet.

It would be good if they eventually take on the Saturday 3pm games. That law must change soon with the money in the game nowadays.

Yeah that was a shambles. Long term though it'll all be streamed I imagine

There’ll be mounting pressure to make the 3pm games available. It’s such an outdated rule. As I’ve always said, you’re either a match going fan or you aren’t. If you’re a Coventry fan and you’d rather watch Man United v Liverpool on the TV than go to a Coventry game then you aren’t a Coventry fan at all. Won’t happen. If you’re still going to Coventry after all these years then 3pm PL games won’t change that.

It certainly isn't live. My streams were 4-5 mins behind real time play.

I’ve heard this myself. I think I was only 90-120s behind, at least in the first half when City scored, but my mate reckoned he was 5 mins behind.

Mine was 58 seconds behind the time it had on Skybet

If 3pm games become televised then clubs like Coventry will struggle. They will not be able to afford to play games at their stadium and will have to play them in Birmingham or something. Farfetched but could happen if there were televised 3pm matches.

Short term maybe, but everything points to a more affordable and flexible way of watching the PL on tv.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not TV though is it? It's the internet, which is way behind and prone to freezing. We have gone backwards from 60 years ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree with Finlay.

I hate streaming matches because it’s unreliable, Lambeau has already pointed out some issues too, with TV coverage you at least get uninterrupted, live, up to the second HD coverage of the game. Streams are susceptible to buffering, freezing, pixelated images etc.

I saw Simon Jordan was again getting praise for his Premier League Netflix style subscription idea on TalkSport, the idea the PL would make a killing if they offered a £9 a month streaming service and gave fans a choice of which games to watch.

But how many fans ONLY watch the PL? If your team is in Europe you’ll still need BT to watch the CL and EL, if you like international football you’ll still need Sky, you’ll also need both + Premier Sport if you like watching other leagues (Championship, SPFL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A). Plus the more games Amazon get you’ll likely want/need a subscription to that too.

So that’s: 1) Sky, 2) BT, 3) Amazon, 4) “PL Netflix” and 5) Premier Sport. It’s getting ridiculous, and they’ll definitely start putting the prices up too.

For now I'd be happy to have a ten minute buffer and a full hd stream rather than a jumpy pixelated one

I signed up for the free 30 days subscription then cancelled straight away. Still good till 2nd January looked like a perfect picture to me though I didn’t watch all the palace game. It’s on S African super sport tonight so I’ll probably watch on there. I’m not very techy but doesn’t the quality of the product depend on the strength of your broadband? I have virgin & a dodgy box, all channels are A1

The quality of the stream is effected by your speed as well as their set up. The speeds at home in a lot of places are now fast enough for very high definition live streaming but so far companies have struggled with the amount of people accessing football matches.

Think it's only a matter of time before that's corrected though. Ironically it'll then swing back to being peoples personal internet speed and countries like the UK are already falling behind badly in that regard
