Pogba strolls back into this team.

Come on now, that's the first time we've won back to back games in the league this season if not this year.

We've been gash this season but we had a good WEEK.

Porcess is right, he slots straight in where Lingard plays for me.

Most of the pens given have been dives from Rashford and James

Pogba deffo comes back into the team for me in place of Jesse. But there creativity he offers comes with a trade off against the energy and workrate of Jesse.

Can you give me some examples of decent games Pogba has had playing at number ten please?

Pretty much played there when Ole took over and for a while was the most prolific player in Europe for goals and assists and then Ole decided to drop him deeper for some reason.

As this article points out, Allegri and Blanc both tried Pogba at ten when they didn’t want to play 4-3-3, and both binned the idea quickly because he was abysmal.

https://www.google.pt/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2697896-why-paul-pogba-still-cant-live-up-to-the-hype.amp.html

They’ve both said it, as has Deschamps: he’s simply not a ten. He doesn’t have the movement, energy, discipline or close quarters awareness for the role, and should be playing facing the opposition, not with his back to them.

Mourinho knew it, and so does Solskjaer. Anyone expecting Pogba to get a run at ten when he’s back is in for a rude awakening.

We’ll either see a change in formation (highly unlikely), Fred dropped outright, or Pogba rotated back into the side sharing time with Fred (most likely IMO).

No he didn’t.

When Ole played the diamond, he had Lingard at ten. When he played 4-3-3, he had Pogba as the most advanced midfielder of the three playing off the left.

I don't need to have seen him play in that position to know he can do it, he's clearly a brilliant attacking midfielder. His talent makes this position a natural fit and he was always in the final 3rd during the run winning run Ole had when he first arrived. It's the same as Martial, you didn't want him down the centre but his attributes suit multiple positions. Ole him self has come out and said Pogba can play in any position in midfield.

Pogba would be devastating in an attcking role. Even a free role would help with no defensive responsibilities.

I would play him instead of Lignard. With the pace of Martial, Rashford and James, we would kill teams

MUDD I said last season Pogba should have a free role but given more defensive duties when we play a team like City or Liverpool who always make teams work hard.

Whilst I agree that he has done his best work on the left of a midfield 3, I do think that he work in a central advanced role. If Martial, James and Rashford are making the runs and creating space, it should give him some space to operate. The problem being that I don't think he has what it takes (on a regular basis) to break teams down that sat deep and are compact. He dallies on the ball too much and isn't incisive with his passing. In the long term I feel that Gomes would be better suited to that position/role. Whether he is ready for that just now remains to be seen, as does whether we can get him to sign a new contract.

Against teams like City or Liverpool, playing him higher up the pitch minimises risk. A lot of the time Pogba dawdles on the ball because he has no options ahead of him.

Oles loyalty will prevent him from dropping Fred and Mctominay so I think he will try to accommodate both of them with Pogba

The unknown factor is how motivated pogba will be on his return

His talents make a free midfield role a natural fit. Which is why he’s been played in such by every manager he’s ever had.

His biggest deficiencies are his work rate, his concentration, his movement, his turning circle, his acceleration and his awareness in close quarters. All absolute key attributes of the ten we need to play in Ole’s system, and the reason why none of Allegri, Deschamps, Blanc, Jose and Ole have played him behind a central striker more than a couple of times.

Some of his strongest attributes are his vision, his passing (long and short), his strength and physicality, and his powerful, surging runs, and all of that up and you have a guy who is best played, and should be played in midfield, which is why every manager he’s ever played for has gotten the best out of him in midfield.

And no; I didn’t want Martial as our first choice nine. And although we’ve seen improvement in recent weeks (where he’s been playing much deeper and actually getting on the ball, because he’s distinctly average at best in the box), I’m still convinced that we’d be seeing better from Martial playing in Rashford’s position.

The problem is that Rashford and Martial are far too similar players.

If we do see Pogba playing in front of McT and Fred, it’ll be as a result of a change in system. There’s no way Ole is dropping him into Lingard/Mata’s role, because it just won’t work.

Think where we'd be now if Rashford and Pogba converted theirs earlier in the season, maybe 5 or 6 points more?

In his defence, there are still idiots pushing that agenda. I presume Rosso has done a u-turn on this one.

I think too much is made about the difference between AMF, #10, LCM, RCM, 4-2-1-3, 4-1-3-1 and all that business.

Give the guy a bit of a free role in between the midfielders and forwards and see what happens.

One of the things I have often said on here is that people read to much into formations and the rigidity of them.

If Ole is going to stick with his midfield two, then you accommodate Pogba as below.

..................McT ....................Fred......................

...........................Pogba....................................

James..................Rashford.........................Martial

The front three all capable of interchanging. Pogba playing between the middle and where a number ten would sit.

He’s been better in recent weeks, but it has been Rashford who has largely been carrying the attack, at the business end of it, at least.

Part of the reason Martial has been better is because the coaching staff have allowed all of the forwards to come deeper for the ball, rather than trying to stretch opposition backlines and play on the shoulder all the time, which clearly wasn’t working.

Tony has almost been playing as a false nine, rather than a line-leading target man. And he’s naturally been much better in that role.

He’s still crap in the box

He has been blind on his left hand side for most of the time he has been back.

He either doesn't like Martial or just doesn't see him.
