Why do you think Ireland has so much investment from overseas companies? It’s 12.5% there.
A 7% hike in corporation tax will see many companies of all sizes immediately go into the red and trade insolvent. These companies will have no choice but to pass these increases back onto customers.
Why do people think you can just take money from other people or their companies and there will be no reaction?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Funnily enough the same comments about companies going into the red were made when the minimum wage was being introduced (opposed by Conservative party). Did lots of companies collapse then?
Keeping in mind corporation tax is on profits. So this is not about pushing companies into the red. If a company is in the red it won’t pay corporation tax. it is about how much post tax profit they have.
So, if you make a loss of £100, your corporate tax is unaffected. However, if you make a profit of £100, your post tax profits go from £81 to £74.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What?
It’s a direct 7% deduction on any years worth whichever way you cut it. Shareholders will simply move the money around to reduce their year end profits so they don’t pay this tax. It’ll reduce investment.
Then add in the 10% dilution of any reasonable sized company as they also want to effectively take part of a company they don’t own and just hand it to “the workers” while they also place them on the board and in some cases along with customers.
I hear McDonell is asking business leaders in for a cup of tea to discuss his business friendly proposals. Take up so far?

It is a reduction of 7% in profits where these have occurred.
When you say “it is a 7% deduction” I presume you mean in net profit after tax. So we’ve agreed it won’t send many companies “immediately into the red”.
When you say shareholders “will simply move money around” what do you mean?
On the IOFs you’ll note of course it is “up to 10%”. Likely to be smaller for the vast majority of “reasonable sized companies”. I have no idea who has had a cup of tea with John McDonnell, maybe ask his secretary?

Totally understand the stance taken by Ireland in attracting serious investment info their country.
We should be doing a lot more of it. By helping companies move here with long term Incentivisation to keep them here.
Labour want to take part of their company off them and tax them to the hilt.
Brilliant.

Remember the Apple scandal a few years ago over here where it turned out they owed billions in unpaid tax.
They are a huge employer over here in Dublin and Cork and had they been made pay the bill they would have just up sticks and gone.
Not saying its right they did not pay but that is the main reason it has all gone quiet.
