Not sure what the alternative is though, it wouldn't be very ethical to interview managers for a job before there is one available... these things take time and Freddie has barely had a chance to get his feet under the table

Interviewing, no. But most clubs will have sounded out alternatives. It was the timing more than anything - a week after the international break in a period we had to play every 3 or 4 days.

The people running the club have panicked alright. They've lost the mob and all they can think to do now is to pluck on our nostalgic heartstrings by bringing in some names from the past.

But I'm rather disappointed that Gio van Bronckhorst's name hasn't really featured in the conversation. He's miles ahead of all the usual suspects in terms of experience.

Arteta does have 18 months more experience now. And lets face it, at the time Emery had a very good CV. Had Gazidis done more due diligence of what happened at PSG he may have changed his mind. But I think Gazidis had other jobs on his mind and rushed into it. I think its one reason why this time Arsenal board have been more careful even at the cost of losing points.

The reports on Arteta are very good indeed.

Arsenal have some excellent youth coming through but Imo the seniors are bobbins.

Give him time and Arteta could be a shrewd signing.

Think Xhaka business put a lot of pressure on the club.

I'd be pretty happy to see Arteta take the reigns and would give him time, but the way we've conducted ourselves has been very worrying.

I think if Arteta works out it will be just as much by luck as it is by design & I'm not sure the board could really take much credit for it.

I think with Arteta the Kroenke's has gone for the cheap.

it's definitely a gamble, although maybe they feel because the season is already a write off it's not as big a gamble as it could otherwise be - he's effectively got an 8 month pre-season in readiness for 2020/21 whilst also having an outside chance of putting us in the CL next year

At this point, I'd be happy with someone who can guarantee 18 points between now and the end of the season.

I'd be willing to write-off the next month of fixtures as a new manager settled in, if only our end-season run-in didn't fill me with dread.

My thoughts exactly. It's what the club can afford rather than the best man for the job.

Cant see Jose having to have an interview at Spurs , the only thing discussed would have been how much money he wanted to take the job.

This is so underwhelming. I see no sense in replacing Fred with Arteta. For a massive club like Arsenal, and given the huge pressure and impatience the new manager will have to deal with, Fred and Arteta are both greenhorns. On what basis does the club think one is better than the other in this job? Looks like things will get a lot worse before they get better.

Perhaps the players see Freddie as associated too much with Emery. Don't really know much about Arteta’s management skills but as a player he was certainly a tough hard worker. We have very good players who have been allowed to get away with putting too little work in for far too long and Arteta might fingers crossed be the man to gee things up

He's simply just the next name on a list of Arsenal old boys who the club bosses hope will reverse the 30% drop in nominal match-day revenues.

Statistically, one of them is bound to click. I just hope this happens before we end up having to tell David O'Leary to dust off his clipboard.

Sky saying Ancelotti is now first choice for Everton and has agreed in principle, deal almost done.

Moise Kean will be happy.

Good gamble but he must be backed to the tilt in January and Summer otherwise we will revisit this decision in no time.

Only Arsenal could fack up the chance of signing Ancelotti and end up with a coach with no managerial experience trying to sort out a bunch of lazy, overpaid prima dona's .... gonna be a disaster...... can't wait

Arsenal are going nowhere with Kroenke in charge.

Arsenal never wanted Ancelotti so whats your point?

Arteta would be a bad choice imo. He is schooled in the Guardiola academy of excellence and working with the finest players to carry out his plans. Arteta would be working with players of limited ability in comparison.
Even Guardiola realised when he arrived at City was some of the players were not good enough to implement his approach so he famously spent 200mill fixing the problem. As good as a coach you maybe, you need the right tools to work with.
Arteta wont have the same luxury to fix that this season and Arsenal will need someone with good man management and organisation skills to get through this season and steady the ship.

Arteta is intelligent enough to know how to get the best out of what he's working with. Whether he can implement it is a different story.

People who say he's going to copy and paste guardiola tactics are wide of the mark I'd say.
