Smith isn't the man to turn this around because he doesn't change, he only knows one style of play and when it's not working he's too stuck in his ways to fix it. Oddly we all as fans wanted Villa to play attacking football, but we're not good enough to pull it off in this league because our players aren't good enough.
Even Wolves, who have better players than us, are much more disciplined than we are with as much emphasis on defence and attack. It's almost as if Smith doesn't spend any time during the week in training working on the defence. He's been like this throughout his career, from Walsall to Brentford and now with us. No surprise that under Brentford's new manager they're actually a lot better defensively.
Now McGinn out for 3 months because of Smith's constant refusal to rest him. We're the worst team in the league in current form and both Watford and Norwich are showing more fight. Southampton lost 9-0 at home a couple of months ago, yet they played with confidence and swagger at VP unlike us, it's an absolute disgrace.
I've seen nothing to suggest Smith has learnt from his mistakes this season and therefore I don't see anything changing, he doesn't change the formation, tactics or style of play. Now is the time to bring in Rafa or even Fat Sam, the football won't be great but we will at least fight every week and our defence will be a lot tighter. I'm sorry but I've lost faith in Smtih now.
