John "state the f***ing obvious" Motson should have been binned decades ago. Feel sorry for supporters of London based teams who have to listen to him wheezing week in week out.

I remember there was a tribute to him a few months back, especially reflecting on his work in C4 Football Italia.

I like Martin Tyler, I think he's got that "voice" that just fits, and he shows a lot of passion, I do agree though he was better when he had Andy Gray with him.

Worst Co-commentator has to Martin Keown, one clueless boring fecker!

It seems people are totally split. As you’d expect. Don’t think there’s one poster I totally agree with.

I was going to say Ian Darke is one of the good ones. Great at boxing as well as football. Barry Davis was very natural. And I used to like Tyldesley but he seems to have gone a bit PC.

Ron Atkinson was classic with Tyldesley, as bloodred said, it’s about association with CL when we were up and coming. Mid to late 90s.

Andy Townsend is one of the worst for cliches. “Stay on your feet”

Phil Neville is possibly my worst ever.

Jim Beglin is painful.

Think it’s Tony Gale as well. Can’t stand him. And Garry Birtles. They sound similar if I am remembering this correctly.

Andy Gray was excellent. And Keys as the host. You could tell they genuinely got on.

Yet again, the PC brigade broke that up.

Brian Moore was very natural*

And also as Plump said, Atkinson and Moore as well.

I might have been thinking Brian Moore over Tyldesley, although I’m sure Big Ron commentated with both

Big Ron and Tyldesley were a brilliant duo.

Or when they were showing an English side in the CL who were behind.....”Just need something from someone......somehow”

There's one commentator who I just can't stand but I'm not sure of this name. He's been commentating for years, since the Premier League started at least, but his voice is just awful. When someone scores he goes all high pitched and monotone at the same time. Potentially Simon Brotherton but I'm not certain.

Correction; pretty sure it's Ian Crocker. <sick>

I gave no preference on commentators. Barely know who any of them are or recognize if one is commenting over another.

Unless it’s Ray Hudson. The only commentator who feels he is more important than the match. He’s what people have tuned in for. Diabolical.

To be honest, I’m not really bothered about commentators or who they are besides what I’ve said about Tyler recently and even then my focus is always on the game. Commentary is secondary to me. Only thing I don’t like is when there’s a clear bias against the team I’m supporting.

PC Brigade didn't break it up. Sky wanted him gone and this was the way to do it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Didn’t they want him gone because of his sexist comments?

Sky knowing the push was coming with women’s sports so knew Keysey and co wouldn’t survive (potentially).

Behind the scenes people were getting fed up of Gray. He thought he was untouchable, he was becoming more entrenched in his beliefs that what he said went especially when he was alongside other pundits. Sky wanted him gone and what happened gave them just what they needed.

Have you read that somewhere?
