Yes Chris Martin has been a very good signing by Nigel C. If only he hadn't have been sent into exile by Nigel Loony I reckon he would have scored plenty more. Not bad for a free signing.
Chris is now my favourite player, which will probably mean he leaves, like all my other faves.(Bucko, Will, Johnny etc) Well done Chris Martin, Derby legend.
Everyone was raving about Wayne Rooney on Sunday but the two best passes were Martin to Sibley and Martin to Waghorn, both of which should have yielded a goal. Add to that his goal which demonstrated his experience by hitting the ball with the outside of his boot rather than waiting for the ball for an easier shot but which could have been intercepted. Pretty impressive performance for a player who drags us down as some posters claim.
So, the list credits him with 69 goals since 2013. Just how many more would it have been if certain managers had recognised his quality and not shipped him out ?
Add to that impressive tally, the numerous assists he has made. In my opinion, he's been the architect of many of the finest goals the Rams have scored over the last 7 years.
I hope he manages to climb even more places in the list during his remaining time with us.
He’s always had great quality on the ball and football intelligence. Part of his fallow period was illness which hopefully is behind him now. He needs the team to play to his strengths, and it that doesn’t happen he can look pedestrian and the game passes him by, but that’s true of nearly all players in forward positions.
I bloke used to sit behind me and do nothing but berate Martin the whole game. I think he must have mugged his granny or something because he even seemed annoyed when Martin scored.
MacLaren tried to get him back as as perfect target man in a 433.
I think he got a ill and lost his way a bit after Fulham.
Lampard who would have killed for a decent target man to play in his 433 but sent him out on loan. Go figure!
I know who’s opinion I prefer.
Martin is a Ram.
I don’t think Frank likes Martin type players, he never plays Giroud who is similar to Chris, but obviously not as good .
Well done to all the above comments, they are exactly how I feel, we have wasted one of our best centre forwards. I think Chris is better than O’Hare was.
If he, and I hope he does, stays with the club into his twilight playing years, I can see him becoming a decent coach, listening to his interview after the palace game, he spoke very well, it was very coach like, clear and analytical. Most of the time when a player interviews it feels very cookie cutter and rehearsed like they're given a generic script by the pr department and they try not to deviate too much from it, whereas this genuinely sounded like his own observations.
The reason he was shipped out by previous managers as Derby were to predictable playing to his strengths and when they don't play to his strengths he is a passenger, as mentioned above
Derby were found out playing the Martin way which is why his goals dried up
Having said that I wouldn't have gotten rid as it would have been a good option to revert back to the hold up guy when opposition teams weren't expecting it
I'm pleased for him hes back in the fold and playing well
The reason he was shipped out was because he had a bust up with Pearson over Pearson's insistence that Martin had a an ice bath after Martin was already changed to go home. Ice baths are of no use anyway but a loony like Pearson wouldn't believe that. Look what good they did to Andy Murray.
Pearson liked to bully players, anyone remember that picture of him with his hands round a players throat, but Martin wasn't afraid of him, more likely the other way round.
Yes but he was also on a barren run of not scoring for Derby so either he'd been found out, loss of form etc
Or it was because he wouldn't take a bath
How come no other player he's ever managed hasn't kicked off over not taking a bath
Because they are too stupid to realise it's a load of bull crap. He was dressed and going home when told to go back and take an ice bath. I would have acted the same. The season had only just started so how could anyone know he was on a barren run. He was involved with 27 goals the season before from goals or assists, if only we had players on such a barren run at the moment.

Totally agree, Harps.
I hope the club take advantage of this potential. He is a big personality, intelligent, a leader, seems to be popular with his teammates and a good mentor to young players. He has all the qualities and seems destined for a career in coaching/ management, if he wants it.
Talking to a Norwich City fan the other day and he was telling me at Norwich he was known as the imbiber. He was banned from all the pubs in Beccles. He was like the blokes in the pubs in Heanor who you always tried to avoid. When I told him that Martin is now a family man and well respected he was astonished.
Always like to hear Chris interviewed as he comes over as eloquent and intelligent and a breath of fresh air compared to the majority of footballers. They should let Martin do the press conferences rather than snooze producer Cocu.
I'm no fan of Chris Martin (as you all know) but even I agree that he talks very well after the games and is clearly an intelligent footballer (which, of course, is a relative term).
Trouble is, he talks a better game than he often plays.

Do you make this up as you go?
Try 14 goals the season before but most were first half of season as we had been sussed, 0 in 5 the beginning of the next season
He had 13 assists as well. When he had the bust up with Pearson the season had hardly started. He also wasn't picked by Pearson for some of those games. No one was playing well and we were rubbish. We had our most expensive ever player up front and he hardly troubled the goal keeper all season.
Do you know anything?
Bush - save your breath! You aren't allowed to criticise CM on here
Spart is right, Martin didn't have many games because Loony player Bent instead. I'd play him with Marriott and I don't know why this hasn't been tried. It was the same with Vydra, they hardly played together.
Maybe many managers don't see Martin as being able to play alongside another player?
Personally, I would have given this a go years ago (not Marriott obvs!)
Ive always been a fan of a little and large partnership. Christie and Bobby being a perfect example of how 2 less talented players can combine to produce a great double act.

Point taken. I suppose it had to be John O'Hare for he was taller than Kev. I suppose I was just thinking that strike partnerships were prolific. Keegan and the Welsh guy.
