Regardless of the merits of it, how do you actually propose a realistic way of abolitioning the monarchy?

Open the gates at buckingham palace and first come first serve to each room

I'd retire from my commitments too if I had millions in the bank.

You were born into the royal family. There are benefits as well as responsibilities.

F@cking deal with it.

It's probably cos he's really a Hewitt and not a Saxe-Coburg Gotha Windsor.

Independence for all the countries within the UK. New constitutions within them that deems them to be republics.

Stealthily infiltrate it with a raft of commoners, ethnic minorities, gingers, Germans and Greeks etc... till it's no longer of noble bloodline and they are just a set of great unwashed cants like the rest of the population.

Like Piers Morgan is kicking off about Harry, didn't see much from him on Andrew...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If Andrew did what he's being accused of in some quarters then the condemnation will be so obvious that it pretty much goes without saying. However, as things stand, anyone in the news would have to be careful because anything they say would be libel/slander. Like what you've put above, only you're far more likely to get away with it on here than Piers Morgan on Twitter. Plus, you know, innocent until proven guilty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He proved himself guilty with his TV interview tbf, not legally speaking but there's no doubt he did it.

Her one a week or so later was just the nails in the coffin.

One way or another he must be tried. Here or in the US but if that doesn't transpire i'm sure the royals will lose more than a few supporters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think my main issue with the whole thing is that I don't believe either of them - him or her.

I recall in Scotland you have a legal verdict available to you of "not proven". I'd be going with that if I was a juror based on what I've seen of it all.

(I'm pretty convinced he had some awareness of what was happening and at least "turned a blind eye". It's also clear that his "alibi" was a stupid and desperate attempt to deflect. But I'm holding off on absolute guilt. The most evidence there is is the photo, and that's not enough for me on its own.)

Alright, someone explain this to me. Why is it a big deal?

So, they don’t want to participate in royal duties anymore. So what?

Or is the problem that he will continue to have security paid for or whatever?

Either way, since they’ve withdrawn, I do agree that they should have to pay back costs for their wedding.

He has took millions out of the public purse and when he has been asked to give some back, he legs it.

Mad that the Royals have said they are disappointed with Harry but have yet to release a statement saying they are disappointed with Andrew for continuing his friendship with a beast.

They'll just be privately miffed because he got caught.

There isn't really. A section of the populace felt like they had some ownership of Harry, and were invested in him, and now this dastardly American has come and stolen him away from them. That, basically. And the public money spent renovating their house in the UK, which they want to continue using as a holiday home.

Definitely she has made the decision. He was always willing to milk it for all he could until she came along.

Diafol, but that’s not realistic. You may get a unified Ireland, ok. An independent Scotland, ok. But Wales would never leave the union as they’d be facked and there’s not enough support for a republic of England.

Even if there was a lot of support from the electorate, I don’t think it’d be to the extent that you’d get a government voted in (it’d have to be Labour) with the mandate and mechanisms to go about abolitioning such a powerful institution.

It’s an interesting topic to debate, but I don’t see how people think this will realistically be achieved.

They said they intend to keep Frogmore Cottage, with a view to selling in a few years for millions more than it's worth to a wealth Kazakh investor, on the advice of Prince Andrew.

I just cant believe anyone in the year 2020 would support an institution that lavishes money and privilege on someone because they are supposedly 'Royal', i.e born better, and entitled.
Then still back them when they are caught out getting up to all sorts, right now Andrew is still receiving Millions from the state, sickening.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see it as the top of society are always the most debauched due to their entitlement and their protection and influence gained through said entitlement.

"Wales would never leave the union as they'd be facked"

We're pretty facked as it is at the moment so I don't see how it could get much worse.

It's a discussion worth having and will certainly be more likely when the queen stands down or dies.

To expand on the above we've got some of the poorest regions in the EU. That's with EU funding as well where we're net beneficiaries. I dread to think what'll happen when Brexit bites and we have to rely on Westminster.

I have my doubts too whether Wales could be truly independent but being part of the UK hasn't been great for us either.

Does this apply to every Royal that has got married or just these 2?
So your happy to keep funding them, forever, but the moment they said they want to fund themselves, they now have to pay back the money
