Mourinho negativity

I see Mourinho was saying at his press conference that Spurs can't compete on all fronts.

Pretty much what Poch has been saying.

So is that a message to Levy or the fans?

I get the impression Mourinho’s really underestimated how tough it’s going to be to turn this Spurs side around.

He wasn't banking on losing Kane though...to be fair...& Son for three games & Eriksen being shat....

Actually there's quite a list here now....maybe he should've seen at least two of these

I think Spurs played very well in the second half and Jose might just have stumbled across the answer (or a short term one at least) in how they set up. Think Lamela might be very important if he can stay fit.

Sorry but I doubt that very much - he knew what he was walking into and he's not stupid.

But ultimately he's on a fat pay packet and he can moan about a lack of resources any time he likes, so when results are not good, that's what he will do.

posted on 13/1/20

Just because he’s not stupid doesn’t mean he hasn’t got questionable judgement nowadays. I’d say the same of him coming to United, and I think he’d admit it himself.

You only have to look at how the narrative has vhanged from when he took the Spurs job to now, as I suspect the reality of this Spurs team is setting in with him.

Massive summer for Jose - if Levy doesn’t open up the purse I can’t see Jose succeeding. If he does then who knows.

He's already sucked the life out of me. Haven't been to any of the last three home games and don't intend to go to many this year.

If it wasn't for the ticket exchange I wouldn't renew my season ticket. I think he will be gone this time next year so it's just about seeing out time.

These are all things which the previous manager had to deal with as well. Kane injury, Son getting suspended, Eriksen being awful and so forth...

Mourinho has definitely underestimated how difficult the job will be. He and Levy thought just because Pochettino took us Cl final and 2nd in the league before that these players were capable of returning to their old ways.

Wrong.

I don't see how he can have misjudged the situation - he knows the squad and he's recently managed in the league.

Errrrrr no! 12 points from 14 games. averaged 1 point a game in the last few months of last season. No away win in 2019 under Poch.

Levy did not expect Jose to walk in and make us awesome, he expected him to walk in and do a damn sight better than relegation form!

posted on 13/1/20

I think it is also relevant that for the manager to have a real effect, time is needed. Not necessarily months and months but time on the training pitch to get the message across.

Under Jose we have literally had 2 games a week almost every week. This is more easily done when the manager has been in place a while as everyone knows what the philosophy is , when a new man comes in its hard to get the message over if you are constantly preparing for the next game

You think he's done a brilliant job in turning it around?

Mourinho first 13 games:
6 Wins 2 Draws 5 Losses

Pochettino last 13 games:
4 Wins 4 Draws 5 Losses

We were 11 points behind 4th when Pochettino got fired. We are now 9 points behind. The great saviour. Obviously it was a stupid sacking. You can't blame the old manager for results and then ask patience on the current one with transfers. That is exactly what Pochettino needed.

This isn't even a Pochettino v Mourinho issue either. Daniel Levy needs to back the manager he is hiring - full stop. My preferences were:

[1] Keep Pochettino and back him
[2] Hire new manager and back him
[3] Hire new manager and don't back him
[4] Keep Pochettino and don't back him

3 and 4 will ruin the club.

This is the larger point people seem to be missing. It's like they see what he's done in his last three jobs, and they just ignore it because it's inconvenient, when in fact all the signs are that the exact same thing will happen again in his time at Spurs.

If we weren't going to back Pochettino in turning it around it was always the better option to bring a new man in but that's basically picking your poison.

And if we are going to back any manager, why wouldn't you want it to be the man who took us to a different level than 5 years prior and knew what the issues were in the team?

Daniel Levy panicked and hoped Mourinho could grind results to take us into CL. Then back him a little bit in the summer for a chance the following season. His 2.5 year contract shows he has no faith in Mourinho long term. His hail mary of an attempt to salvage a season without spending on players.

No. same old boring Jose.

shooting your load a bit early arent you.....

- transfer window still open
- in 2 cup competitions
- still in with a chance of top 4

2.5 years to see if Jose can deliver is about right. He's basically got to the end of next season to bring some silverware else he's gone. Look where Liverpool went. 8th after 1 season of Klopp, then upwards. He was initially handed a 3 season deal, effectively the same as what Jose got.
