Is McNamanama the sole selector? I never know how much blame should fall on the coach and how much should fall on the players. Some of the players didn't do much, so I'm not sure what the coach could do if there was another game next week.

Farmduck.I would imagine he must pick the team otherwise what else would he do to earn his money. He may be a nice guy, richard agar at hull fc is sound, but as a coach not up to it.!

the best have failed as England/GB coach its the toughest job in RL IMO....so what chance has Mcnamara got when he's not even classed as a great coach.

You could get rich if you could find the secret to making England a major RL power. NZ has only 24,000 registered RL players. England has 40,000. Maybe they should ask Brian McLennan to take over. He was the one who made NZ a regular force. Before that they would spring an upset once every 5 years and generally fade out after 60 minutes.

Farmduck. The trouble is how can we progress when you are playing ordinary loose forwards like sinfield at off half.Give somebody like lomax a go at off half or switch sam tomkins.!

The registered amount is irrelevent if all the best athletes join other sports.

Typical example would be in high schools, you play football, the best players carry on with football, the dross go play rugby.

Lots of quantity not much quality.

There's a new slant. RL players are failed soccer players.
The wimpy ones who can't play RL take up chess. The rest, the brainless wimps, watch football.

It isn't a new slant at all, anyone with half a brain knows that the majority of parents would encourage their kids to take up football, if they excel at both sports.

Imagine you are a 15 year old in high school, and you're fantastic at rugby and football, which one do you pursue, the one that you can earn up to 100k per week, or the one where you will be on that a year.

Like I said, its a no brainer, so lots of the elite athletes go into other sports.

Let me guess - you don't have kids. Your Katonaesque attitude to exploiting everything and everyone you can speaks volumes.
You have no clue what being a parent means.

I'll try your method Ron: imagining I'm a 15-year-old in high school. First, I play Aussie Rules because that's what they play at my school. Then I take up RL because I'm not good enough to make the school Aussie Rules team. Then I change high schools and I play RU, because that's what they play at my new high school.

Since, at the age of 15, I didn't realise that anybody could make 100K a week, I seem to be choosing whichever code my friends play or whichever code my school plays, or whichever code I'm best suited for.

Even by the age of 15 it's pretty obvious that some kids, because of their size or general lack of skills, will never play for Man U. These same kids however could make good forwards in a rugby code. Do you really think Petero Civoniceva took up RL to avoid the hassle of managing all that money from Chelsea?

Whoever made the decision to play Sinfield instead of K. Brown should be out of a job...

A lot of you won't agree with me, but if the choice of England Rugby League coach was left to me i would choose Phil Gould. what ever you think of this man, you can't escape the fact that what he doesn't know about Rugby League is not worth knowing.
I would guarantee you that with him as head coach we would win this seasons 4 nations.

I don't think its mcnamaras fault that we can't beat a load of antipodeans tjat aren't good enough for their own league. I am surprised that he picked so many of the older set but can't imagine a younger group would have made that much difference. it was fairly competitive and he'll have learned a lot from what happened but that doesn't alter the fact that we are relatively deficient in quality. Nothing is going to change in the short term....why would it. In the longer term we are reliant on the game becoming attractive to future generations across a wider geographical area. at the moment club rugby in this country is pre eminent and i'm not sure how that changes. International rugby is just a distraction...a bolt on.

Mac aint a coach end of, Dont expect the team to win many games and you will be over the moon if they do manage the odd win.
Our game aint geared up to field a top rate international team, and its just taken a few steps back thanks to SL.
RL AT CLUB LEVELS BAD ENOUGH ,BUT AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL bab

Atkin. That is my point, why play someone like peacock, who is well past it or sinfield out of position at off half, much as though i like sinfield, but he isnt going to blind the aussies with pace. Young lomax at saints has plenty of pace and looks a decent prospect. What are we going to do throw him in at the deepend, surely this was an ideal opportunity to blood some youngsters and see what their made of.! Tomkins switching to off half would be another alternative.!

Cravenred.Like you i thought this was a warm up for the 4 nations. We all know what the older players can do,so why not give some youngsters a go,as for mcnamara he is a joke, after years of failure at bradford and he is about to get the sack he gets a better job, unbelieveable.!

A lot of people were surprised with the effort put in by the Exiles after just a couple of training sessions.
Rugby league is a simple game and if you do the small things correct you are nearly there, besides it was these players best chance to show what they have got in order to get an extension or another contract........another season on 200K is a pretty good incentive.

Mcnamara when he finishes with England will never get a top coaching job again, he was a strange appointment following on from guiding Bradford to their longest losing record in their history.

He will likely be a flop at internationla level as he simply does not have it on the evidence we have seen so far.

Those players that ran out for England the other night, we already know what they are capable of.
I would of thought it would of been a great opportunity to give a few players a chance to show what they have got in a test like atmosphere.

It was interesting to note that Widdop played in the 7 jersey for Melbourne last night and played well in organising the run of play whilst the top line players were un-available due to state of origin......cheers
