Totally agree with this..
as a fitness fanatic myself, I really know the value of rest periods and how your performance can suffer (without you even knowing it) if you don't rest up.
Beilsa is big on fitness, I would be surprised if he doesn't know the science behind it all (he must do) but he has a history of burning teams out.
I would like to think the players have one massive rest day - where they all sit in ice baths and go in sauna's … has Thorpe Arch got these things?
The Christmas run of games and then February, where we have 7 games in 28 days, are are marathon. We simply don't have the squad to cope well. If we did, I'm not convinced Bielsa would use it.
Also think psychology and pressure plays a big role at Leeds. There is such a difference in atmosphere between those October and November games and the ones in the New Year. We had first halves like the one against Wednesday earlier in the season but Elland Road was fairly calm and supportive. But on Saturday there was so much tension. It must affect players as well.
We also started the season with Forshaw who was bang in form, we are a player down straight away, just likenwe we're with Saiz/Baker
Management have blinkers on
More pressure on second half of the season and we don't currently have the strike force to score enough under that pressure.
I think less international breaks is actually easier as players can either keep momentum going better, or have the chance to right a poor result quicker.
These players will not need that kind of rest.
agree most above but Harrogate, all professional sportsmen need rest periods to keep performance. this is why bigger squads rotate.
I take my hat off to pro sportsmen, I really do, it must be so difficult to run at the intensity for 90 mins, twice per week... pro boxers are even fitter, boxing for 12 rounds is near impossible for a mere mortal.
when boxers finish their camps and fights, they'll nearly always take two weeks full rest.
don't underestimate the power of rest in sport
We didn't run out of steam last season, we just didn't play well enough in the last 4 fixtures and we had no more or less games than anyone else. The squad get rest days and it must work pretty well.
Agree totally with harrogate

disagree mate, I thought we didn't play that well for the entire second half the season.. we looked jaded.. sometimes you don't realise it yourself either.
I would like to think they do have rest days within the week.. but a rest day in the week is not enough rest to recover over a pro-longed period - I won't bore you with the science mate, but have a little look at google and the sports programmes for each body type / sport... a rest week / period allows your body to catch up with its self, to repair tendons etc etc.. you'd be surprised mate, honestly..
back to the point, pro footballers are so fit, it doesn't seem comparable, you'd think that players that fit can just go on, but they are only human after all...
don't take my word for it mate, do some research, I bet you'd be surprised at the recovery of many pro sportsmen

with which bit LIW? - the players don't need the rest ? - or we just didn't play well enough for the last 4 games?
I'm sure that Bielsa and his team know exactly how much the players can do, I thought they worked on their weaknesses and built them up!..
They do have charts on each player and know exactly what needs doing or not?..
And resting, a Boxer has a long break after fights because if they didn't the knocks to the head it'll kill them within a year!..
People always on about 2 games a week, I don't understand how footballers cant handle 2 games a week every week, you have other sports where people run/peddle more in a day than footballers do in 2 games!..
And if you want another example, try taking the Military 32km bash with full pack and weapons!..
That is a killer!..
Not sure, maybe the Military have it a little easier these days!.
The players didn’t need a rest. We’d be found out a long time before.
Having no game for 10 days, would have made zero difference

I see your point ref being found out a little.. but we'll have to agree to disagree ref the recovery period.. as I do think if we had a bigger squad, we could of given some key performers a rest, and I honestly think we'd of come through those last 4 games on top.
People always on about 2 games a week, I don't understand how footballers cant handle 2 games a week every week, you have other sports where people run/peddle more in a day than footballers do in 2 games!..

Germany, its not just 2 games per week though is it? - they train for hours every day too... why do you think Liverpool are playing their under 12s team in the cups for example?
and the military, totally agree there, that level of fitness totally blows my mind... I assume you were in the military, after these 32k hikes, how many did you do per week.. how long for, and did you rest up every 6 months?
You play one way and one way only, teams will find a way to neutralise you.
Teams like Man City and Liverpool can get away with because the players are miles better than everyone else’s.
Our players aren’t, it the manager which carries the team

yeah, don't dispute that in the slightest mate
We've got a 10 day break after QPR.
I find football more tiring than kickboxing, I kickbox twice a week (Tue,Wed) at blackbelt level, yet playing wingback in amateur football I find tougher in regards to rest and recovery requirements. I feel the affects of 90 mins of football the next day or two whereas as kickboxing recovery is fast. I get way more knocks and muscle injuries in football than I get in back to back kickboxing sessions also, so our players will certianly have plenty of dead legs, bruises and sore ankles over the course of the season playing pro level and twice a week. I picked up 3 injures in a single game over Christmas alone, Klich must be shot to pieces!!
Shaun.. kickboxing not for me, I find it a struggle after throwing a kick and back to guard, its like my pre-set it boxing guard, so I'm all off balance.
and yes, totally agree ref the bruises, niggles, they catch up with you, which is why you need a recovery period, not just a rest day in the week
and yeah Shaun, ironically the worse injury I've ever had was playing squash FFS, squash !! its none contact
Even if it was true that our players were not rested enough, all the other teams are in the exact SAME position. So it's an even playing field.
Liverpool didn't play first teamer's in that game because they were on the other side of the world.
Spit, I'd think the more they play the less they'll train, and that goes for Liverpool as well!..
The 32km bash is the Commanding Officers test, we did it once or twice a year, but just once was a hell of a sight harder than 2 games of football a week!..
We did more fitness like 8 or 10km bashes more often, but gym work and other fitness test were thrown in!..
Best thing was you did that in the mornings, and most afternoons were sports, so, even more fitness!..
Germany, did they schedule in rest / recovery weeks at all?
Shaun/Spit - I'm just agreeing with both of you on everything from now on ……

VOF, I'm as soft as anything, cry at Disney films when I watch them with my kids.. honestly, I had to fight tears back watching the lion king when Mufassa dies
We only had Championship games from Jan on, we weren't in the Champs league, league cup & FA cup. So no rotation wasn't needed.
It's not hard to understand! I don't know why people complicate things, we just simply were not good enough. Sheff Utd & Norwich blew us away.
