A brutal run of fixtures coming up which should give some clarity on how well Ole is doing.
Liverpool (A)
Burnley (H)
FA Cup tie - Probably Watford (A)
Manchester City (A)
Wolves (H)
Chelsea (A)
The absolute bare minimum would be progress in the FA Cup, avoiding a humiliation v City in the League Cup and 6 points.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We had this a few months ago when we had a tough run and the board idiots were predicting we'd be 14th at the end of it. We were actually in 5th by the end of it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I never made any predictions
I guess you would agree that less than 6 points from those league fixtures is not acceptable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes we really need to be beating Burnley and Wolves. The Chelsea game is the big one. If we lose that then I think 4th spot will be out of reach come the end of that run of games. Liverpool will turn us over at Anfield I'd expect and we might get a point at City.
Hopefully we get Fernandes signed over the weekend and he can give us a boost after the Liverpool game.
Elvis. The City game is the league cup one. Out of the six games above mentioned only four are league games. If we can win the home games and get a point from Chelsea or Liverpool it's not too bad a return IMO. Anything more would be ahead of par.

I believe it's possible. Or to put it another way I think he has as much chance as Poch.
The top two are going to be hard to overtake in the near future whoever we have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Teams generally have 3-4 year cycles, Fergie was able to build 3 great teams. City look like they will have a bit of transition in the summer, and have the money to fix things quickly if Pep stays). Liverpool are at the early point of their cycle, so probably have a nother 2-3 years before transition. Ole (or whomever is next in job, the whole club in fact) should be aiming for a similar model. If a team (any team) can peak while Liverpool and city are both in transition or decline it's very possible that they can be over taken.

I'm hoping this is the plan. That we peak when that transition comes. A few LFC fans I know think that one star player will be sold in the summer to help them invest in their squad (they keep thinking Salah or Mane will be sold).

Beating this City side to the title and getting 97 points last season point to a brilliant achievement. Not to mention a CL title. It’s impossible to state that the standard has gone down across all of Europe with any relevance to the debate - when has the quality been that good in both the league and Europe at the same time?
Most sensible people would accept that this Liverpool side would compare well against most teams over the past 20/30 years
This Liverpool side is incredibly professional and efficient and fully deserve their lead at the top of the PL. However, I actually enjoyed (if that's the right word - probably not) watching them play a few seasons ago. They are much more solid now though to be fair and they also perfectly compliment each other within the system Klopp is playing.
