Yep, and the club got its comeuppance for bad management / overspending. It's horrible, and I feel sorry for all fans that have to suffer the consequences. But this guy has been pushing every loophole imaginable. The rules are much clearer since FFP (tho not perfect). Other Championship clubs have taken it seriously and stepped back. Melvyn seemed to think he was above the law. If I was a Derby fan, I'd be furious with him if it results in points deduction.

I'd also add, that the obvious underlying problem is the size of the gap in finances between Premier league and Championship which causes all this. That ultimately needs addressing somehow...

With the squad at your disposal yeah you had a decent record.
But then what happened? Keep going.....
Whole of EFL is a mess. To compete in the Championship and make a profit is impossible.
Derby deserve to be punished for the stadium sale. You can dress it however you want it - loop hole, smart ownership. It's crooked, selling the stadium to yourself for an inflated price to post a profit.
But the EFL need to tackle to cause not the symptoms. Why are clubs making losses? Wages are too high and income too low. But they still give parachute payments to relegated clubs which inflate the rest of the league and still let Sky exploit our clubs for a pittance in comparison to the PL.

We got relegated the season after you, and have seen what happens to a club hit with points deductions from trying to buy success.
Sadly it is the loyal fans who have to suffer thereafter, whilst the wealthy owners disappear to their plush mansions.
Good. Hopefully they pay for this.

Yes the deal they 'negotiated' with Sky is a big factor in the losses Championship clubs make. parachute payments and the current FFP rules make it extremely challenging.
One third of the income of the Championship comes from parachute payments which only a few clubs receive. The huge discrepancy between the income for the Premier League and the Championship makes clubs gamble on promotion. It worked for Bournemouth, Leicester and Wolves. It didn't work for QPR or so it seemed but the EFL let them off with a slapped wrist.
Parachute Payments
Maybe the single dumbest aspect of modern football.
You absolutely suck as a team. You get relegated.
"Hey, let's reward that."
Idiotic. Should be, you get relegated and part of that
demotion you now have to readjust your books to suit
the division you dropped to. You have to lose those
Prem players you signed? Tough. Should be a
universally accepted part of the overall penalty of
sucking and being relegated.
Level the playing field.
£100 million for finishing last.
The disparity between the premier League and championship is scandalous.
9 points minimum for this - hopefully a lot more.
Add an extra 10 points off for inflicting Rooney into the championship using betting money.
Should see them into league one.

The whole point though is you cant just "lose" the Prem players you've signed. They're on 3-4 year contracts on Premier money. Not many players will be wanted by Premier teams as they've proven they're not good enough so you are left with a load of players who cant be sold because noone can match their salaries. Takes a while to sort this mess out the parachute money to ensure said clubs dont literally go bust overnight.
I get that Kebab.
Doesn't make the idea any less ridiculous in my mind.
It basically gives teams already in the division a kick in the nuts. And gives the relegated team a huge advantage. I don't know what the alternative is. But there has to be one.
