People believe what managers and players say in interviews and press conferences far too easily

I don't even see a problem with what he said.

The OP should really put in what Klopp said because then it makes far more sense.

I like Ole tbh. If anything he is too honest.

Liverpool are a top side and if/when they win the league this season they will be well worth it: they’ve looked like potential winners for about two and a half years now.

I don’t buy into this argument about a weaker period at all. Football is kind of evolutionary. When Fergie’s first United team were ruling at home, it took Wenger to come in and revolutionise Arsenal with new foreign stars and behind-the-scenes changes. To topple them, United built a side good enough to win the treble, then Arsenal in turn grew into the Invincibles. Mourinho’s Chelsea were ruthlessly brilliant and raised the bar again. Over the last couple of seasons, Pep’s City have proven capable of crushing teams week in and week out and going on lengthy winning runs. As their nearest (only) rivals, Liverpool have adapted and are now basically winning every game, which is what last season taught them was necessary. Evolution.

The only thing I would say is that I actually rate City higher, even now. I watched Liverpool at OT earlier this season and thought they looked very ordinary against a workmanlike United - last season too. I said after both games that City would have won comfortably, as they did in the Carabao Cup recently.

I’ll probably be made to eat my words on Sunday, mind.

Great post.

It's a mentality issue vs Utd imo. Much like Everton with us.

Saying that we're continually getting results against Utd now but it's weird how when we met in Europe we smashed you but in the league we got done pretty easily under LVG.

I think Liverpool will probably win by a couple. I just have it in my head that I would rather face Liverpool than City, even if we beat City only recently. Pep’s teams can just make it look easy against us.

Id take a point right now CR.

Easily my least favourite game of the season.

The other thing about discussing this subject on this forum is that you cannot use it as any sort of measure for each fanbase.

Certain people take the forum far too seriously to the point that they cannot engage in mature discussion with some others on here, so inevitably you'll have some ridiculous comments thrown around on here.

I don't think anything I do will fix it - just saying that there's not a lot of point in expecting exclusively reasonable comments on here when people behave the way they do.

You could make it a sticky thread with rules of debate:
1) any thread Winston is on robbing and toor need not reply...

“Did he see the disallowed Wolves goal the other night?”

The one where a freekick should have been given for the late challenge in which Maguire’s foot was stamped on?

posted on 17/1/20

Everyone was so busy arguing about the handball that they ended up completely ignoring what was a clear foul on Maguire.

LFC are playing good football and are deservedly top. The only real challenge was City though.

I don't think anyone can deny that

Other teams are in turmoil of one sort or another. Honestly this seasons win would be no different to Leicester winning it

A decent MU and Chelsea team would have made it more interesting imho.

I think that we’re seeing with Liverpool what SAF did to that great Chelsea side of the mid 2000s - they looked unstoppable but we had to step up a level to break them and win back the title

Liverpool have risen to the occasion against an equally great City side and realised that to win this title you have to be relentless and not give an inch just as City didn’t the last couple of seasons. Liverpool getting 97 points and winning the CL was imo a better achievement than most PL title wins. And this season they deserve all the credit for continuing that run.

We're just 20 points off Leicester's final total when they won it
