Does Shinnie Waltz Straight Back In?

Apart from the goal Shinnie hasn't looked anything special. The first time I saw him play was at Scunthorpe and I thought Knight looked a far better player. I would say he is better than Evans but not as good as Knight, Hudz, Holmes or Rooney so subs bench at best.

I agree that he doesn't replace any of those 4 but in a 4231 he could be used as a second holding player next to Huddz leaving Knight and Holmes with Rooney.
In that scenario it would be hard to argue to keep Lawrence in the 11.

I don't see Knight as a replacement for Lawrence. Knight is more in the Bryson mould, hard working, likes to take a shot at goal, not the kind of player who runs at defenders and beats them, but then you could argue neither is Lawrence.

To answer the question an insight into what is happening on the training ground is needed. How fit is he compared with Lawrence, Knight etc?

The team constituents are important, but we do have more pressing problems. I was thinking about the EFL and their reported approval of the accountancy moves the club has employed. My worst fear is the EFL could argue that the moves themselves were approved but it was up to Derby County to ensure they did not lead to excessive losses in breach of FFP guidelines/rules. I guess it will depend on the wording of the approvals given. FINGERS CROSSED - and any other conjoined digits capable of being suitably angled.

Spart I don't agree with that. Knight runs at defenders and gets past with determination. He never stops working and is a brilliant find. Well done Wassell and his team. (Agree with the last bit!)

I won't argue with you Rameses.

Shinnie had a slowish start (didn't everyone) but I thought he had found his feet and cemented a place - even if not necessarily starting.

He does bring a bit of bite and would like to see a Rooney/Shinnie combo at some stage......

These youngsters are going to blow hot and cold as they gain experiance. They need nurturing and protecting from burnout to flourish properly. Certainly see Shinnie back in the 11 for the Northampton game, good reasons to give Rooney a break too.

I can see Rooney being rested but purely for the romance of the cup it would be great for the Northampton faithful to see him play at Sixfields..

It’s probably all they are talking about.

Shinnie is likely to play at Northampton but not to dislodge Knight or Holmes from the first team in the Championship. Nor is he a calming influence in the Huddlestone mode or a general influence in the Rooney mould.

He’ll be a great sub though, a ratter who can come on in a variety of situations, but a shame if Sibley loses his place in the squad as a result. I’d like Sibbo to start at Northampton and make himself indispensable to the squad.

I'm expecting Cocu to go with a few more of the 'yuff' for this match with Sibley likely to get a game if we go with a 4-2-3-1 formation. With Bielik out for the season I expect Shinnie to pop in and out of the side in midfield but let's not forget he's also played at LB and could offer us an option there too should we be seeking better defensive options to Malone.

Probable

...........................Roos.......................

Bogle..........Davies............Forsyth.........Lowe.......

.................Bird.....................Shinnie................

Knight.................Rooney......................Sibley.....

..........................Marriott.................................

Just wondering if he's going to risk more of our current first XI when we have a game in four days time vs Luton who will be fighting for survival.

Flip side is he's gambled with youth vs Forest and it backfired so may not risk too many young 'uns.

Northampton game on TV as well!

I'd like to see Martin get a game, he did score at CP and then got dropped. He needs games to get fit, like Rooney does. Too much bark in the kidney region.

All the best Thorne. Wish you well at Oxford. Had the pleasure to see him vs Forest in his debut season and he was absolutely immense.

Incredibly cruel luck to be robbed of a decent career when he had talent and the desire to apply himself.

Best midfield three that I'd seen in some time at Derby

Hendrick - Thorne - Hughes

Career really ended in meaningless game against Ipswich. Had he been rested we would probably have been promoted via the play offs.
