"At one point it looked nailed on that VVD would go to City"
Really it never did.
Easy to be revisionist but it seems to me that Liverpool turned from a very good attacking team to serious title contenders with pretty much that signing. Probably not quite that simple but he’s been an immense acquisition.
Sliding doors... Sir Alex being succeeded by Sven in 2002!
yeah it was never ever nailed on.
but say it did happen.
city would certainly be the top side.
Not PL related but Lampard's equaliser against Germany in the 4-1.
If we had been awarded that goal the confidence boost of fighting back to 2-2 would have certainly changed the game.
Germany's last 2 goals only came from break-a-ways as we searched for another equaliser.

Man City could have signed him but they turned it down. Silly decision in hindsight

And if Gazza’s leg had been and inch longer in Euro 96
Gerrard's slip didn't lead to Rodgers being sacked.
Suarez leaving and Sturridge getting injured, as well as Sterling leaving, meaning our whole front line and being replaced by Balotelli, Benteke and Lambert, led to him being sacked.

They were definitely on the back foot for a while but they were so superior, and England so shambolic, that the game would surely have righted itself in the second half with the same result.

I don’t mean that. I mean that had Liverpool gone on to win the title without that slip I doubt you would have gotten Klopp
Don’t remember him being linked with city TBF

Maybe, maybe not but you know football. Sometimes panic sets in to even the better sides. Going into that World Cup England looked amazing. But it just never got going. Maybe getting that second goal would have woken up England.

This. Robb has made this up. City merely inquired, doubt they had any intention to sign him especially after van Dijk made it clearly he wanted to work under Klopp.
Regarding Liverpool, The sliding door moment was when Klopp agreed with Edwards and the powers that be at Liverpool with regards to signing record fee players after criticizing United for signing Pogba and Lukaku.
Chances are if Klopp did not have a change of heart Liverpool would not be as dominant as they are even though I still think they would compete even without van Dijk and Allisson.
My sliding door moment was when the powers at united allowed Fergie to recommend Moyes for the Job.
That has changed the landscape of the Premier League.
Can I just add, why on this site has the word “gotten” superceded “got”?

Why? We still would have lost Suarez and Sturridge to injury and Sterling still would have went to City. You could say we may have attracted better players to replace our whole forward line but not with certainty.
Robb, off topic but you picked out any corner bets for this week?

Well, just as long as we dont start saying "could care less" instead of "COULDN'T care less" it will be fine.
