Does this include the 16 year old kid, Bellingham, from Birmingham City that we have reportedly offered 30 million for
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Reportedly. We reportedly offered that a week ago. No need yet though. Strange
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Funny how we worry about spending 50m on one player and are happy to spend 30 million on a 16 year old
----------------------------------------------------------------------
LMAO. In their defence, it will probably be loaded with add one.

Only reason we not spending in January, Is because Ole won’t be the Manager come the start of next season. No point overspending on players now just incase they are not the new manager cup of tea.

If this proves to be true, it is yet more evidence on how terribly the club is run and our need for DoF.

We wouldn’t be negotiating for the player if that was the case.

I think we'll actually get Fernandes for some reason. Will probably pay near enough what Sporting want (or it all and class it as undisclosed or something).

I thought the squad was full to but I counted only 23 players on the PL list from the official PL site and that includes Young and Mitchell - https://www.premierleague.com/news/1335777

I've read that we are prepared to offer around £45m. I think Ed is undertaking a game of brinkmanship to a degree.

I think the issue with this is this 'soft' release clause. Apparently if Sporting accept or reject an offer of around £42m, then the agent is due 10% or £4m. So Ed could just bid that and then its up to cash strapped Sporting to accept what's on offer or reject and lose another £4m and hope another offer comes.

Transfers seem to be getting increasingly complicated and we clearly don't have the resources and set up to get it done smoothly.

Apparently Bruno was gonna be left out of the squad for tonight’s game but he’s playing now. Such a frustrating situation.

We'll see tonight. Maybe Sporting are saying this hoping we'll buckle. In one way though, if we were to eventually sign, I don't think it's a bad thing he's not going on some kind of strike. Shows he can still be professional and show some leadership.

As I said above though I still, for some reason, see this going through. Perhaps on Thursday after we've been knocked out of the League Cup?

This whole thing is becoming hilarious. We did the same thing all summer only to pay stupid money for AWB and Maguire. Failure to qualify for the CL will cost United a lot more money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I do understand their position. It's becoming ridiculous no thanks to Ed being woeful at the job but it needs to be reset. It will require a year of sensible transfer decisions which will require A PATIENT MANAGER. Robb...

No, it will require new people doing negotiations, greater depth of targets and for United to be in a strong enough position on the pitch to walk away from deals that are too expensive.

posted on 27/1/20

I don't really understand Sporting's problem with Ed's offer if reports are true. Bonuses for winning the CL and the Ballon D'or are all completely reasonable and very likely!

posted on 27/1/20

It seems like most of the fans here that say things like "just pay what they want"... are first to starting banging on about the price if the player isn't deemed worth the money after a few games.

Ed and the Glazers must scratch their heads, at times.

Being patient is nothing to do with wanting to salvage a season where we’re close to being down to the barest of bones

I know you’ve written this season off but no one else has

No one is saying pay what they want in the sense that any price must be paid

But if a few extra million gets the deal done it ends up saving us money long term as the price of not getting CL football is a lot more than an extra few million euros

I suspect the bonuses where to sweeten the deal. I suspect the whole 42 million thing is true and sporting wants more. I'm guessing their agent is working with us (why not, with 5 mill coming to him) so any extras is just a favour ergo the ridiculous add ons

posted on 27/1/20

Various outlets including RTP in Portugal who are said to be their version of the BBC, (maybe Ji could shed some light on that) over the weekend have been reporting a new offer of around €55 million plus around €15 million in bonuses has been made.

The dispute apparently is still over the bonuses which remain unrealistic for Sporting. The main one being Bruno winning the Ballon d'Or.

This season was meant to be a write off from the get go. There's only hope because everyone else is so sheit. We need that reset. It will be irritating to repeat the same effing cycle again.

Not close to BBC standards, but probably the most respectable in Portugal.

I'll ask some of my Sporting chums if it sounds like anything is happening over there.

I don't know if that's the case anymore Darren as I've read the only clause Sporting are looking to change is the one I mentioned.

Either we insert a more realistic bonus or we pay a bit more in terms of the flat transfer fee.

I don't get the feeling we're too far away but I wouldn't put any money on it happening right now.

The numbers seem right and they've remained pretty consistent since the summer at €70 million. I'm not sure where the claims of 80 million £/€ came from.

The biggest issue seems to be payment structure.

When you look at all the other struggling clubs also doing little in the window, you wonder if they've had a closed doors meeting to try and put a stop to the ridiculous prices.
