The FA Cup

People need to be whining about the lack of cohesion and communication between the PL and FA, before declaring Klopp as the anti-christ. They’re the ones that have created this mess.

He doesn't much because he gets facked over by the FA and the league Cup. It's stupid to have them play 2 matches in 24 hours 5000mile apart and a replay in your mandatory winter break

Let’s stop kidding ourselves. The FA cup doesn’t hold the prestige that it once did and hasn’t for 10 years or so.

The pressure on the big clubs to win the Premier League and CL is huge and there’s no reason we should be jeopardising our assault on both just to appease the journalists who are desperately trying to convince themselves that there is such a thing as the magic of the FA cup.

Juggling the CL, League and FACup, takes some doing, it’s not for everyone

He doesn't dislike the fa cup, he does think the league Cup is too much though especially the two legged semi final.

His point is there is too many games already and the club were specifically told to not schedule any games during the break, some clubs may have seized the opportunity for a lucrative friendly.

But now the fa have scheduled a game in this specific period who will in turn benefit financially from the game. This goes against what the clubs were asked to do.

This, too many games already with replays etc. Klopp been on about this since he joined the PL and has been even more vocal this year, its not just about Liverpool he has talked about Newcastle and Brighton in recent press conferences and how they both lost several players in a single game to I jury over Xmas.

So he can't now just stop what he's been saying for several years and just play the game. I get the idea of disrespecting the cup but his point isn't against the fa cup it's a broader point.

If the fa just played the game on another night outside the break I'd imagine klopp would still be a bit moany about having a replay but he'd get on with it.

All fair points Kneerash, especially about the League cup. The FA are wrong, and as I say he has every right to act the way he is doing.
It just seems a shame

This is true

It took SAF 13 years to get this combination right

I know and it's noise we don't need at a crucial time of the season, klopps a stubborn man when he wants to be though so I don't see him backing down.

I still can't understand why fringe players and players needing games can't play along with the youth players. It's not too many games for them as they don't get many games. I'd also wager that they would jump at the chance to play the game, if given the choice.

This is why it feels more like a protest to me.

Not really interested in the disrespecting the cup argument as that ship sailed a long time ago when numerous clubs for years have fielded weakened teams against smaller clubs, hoping to have enough to win the game but give their main players a well needed rest.

Good article 52 some fair points.

It does feel like a protest more than anything. It looked as if it was pre planned incase we drew and ive read that he had the owners backing.

We've had a heavy fixture list this season not helped by the PL or FA and I believe this is Klopp saying enough is enough.

Reminicent of when SAF pulled United out of the FA cup altogether in 2000

That's the problem Toor klopp has backed himself into a corner here, there's several first team squad players who need minutes but I'd say as a point he won't make them available.

It wasn't intended as a dig. Merely referencing something similar. Not sure the ins and outs of what happened you pulling out at the time.

Exactly and I disagree with this stance. In fact I'd imagine there will be a few upset players who would have hoped to get another start under their belt.

I think the players will think of the bigger picture.

Every morning I listen to Talksport on the way to work and Martin Keown is introduced as "Invincible Martin Keown".

I don't care that Klopp says he doesn't care about records but this team are going all out to try and stay unbeaten that's for sure.

If the extra week rest sets them up for a great end to the season then I'm all for it

In a world where we’ve just lost Bury, almost Bolton, and many more on the brink I definitely don’t want to see the league or FA cups dropped.

Fair enough fielding a strong core of kids, but you can’t tell me players like Minamino, Ox, Adrian, Lovren etc wouldn’t benefit from a run out.

The fa put pressure on the club to represent England in the inaugural World club cup because the thought it would enhance England’s chances of hosting the World Cup

I think everybody is familiar with the reasons. Fergie didn't want to play in both competitions and the FA were happy for United to withdraw from the FA Cup rather than the Club World Cup as they felt it would enhance their chances of their World Cup bid.

Yeah.
It turns out renowned shrinking violet, and staunch England supporter, Alex Ferguson, had his arm twisted by the FA, into binning the FA Cup, because it might help England win the chance to host the World Cup.

This.

They took away the league cup from our platter by refusing to reschedule the match like they've done in previous seasons.

Now they've come for our winter break. They're just chasing the money.

They can suck in Klopp's blonde nuts in my opinion.

If the senior players agree to play and be managed by Critchley then why not?
