All got great names though...there is that...

Spending £30m on a seemingly glass-ankled 18 year old French CB certainly doesn't help.

Xhaka can be a good CB if Arteta can persuade him to make the move. He is just not strong enough in midfield which is why we loose the midfield battles and allow teams to get back into games even when ahead. We need a dominant body in CM.

But Xhaka can't jump. A fatal flaw with a trip away to Burnley coming up next.

He can jump m8. What he doesn't have is awareness and quick reaction in CM. At CB he can see whats coming from a distance and can adjust. He made one tackle today at CB and timed it cause he could see the Bournemouth player and he shepherded to his stronger side and tackled. Cause he could anticipate what the attacker would do because he was the last man. If that had been in midfield he would have confused himself not knowing whether the attacker was going to shoot or lay the ball off. Done nothing till it was too late. And Xhaka's medium passing is abysmal. Thats why he continually passes short even if that mostly means passing backwards and playing our CBs into trouble.

We really need these kind of article on our board

You only have to examine the game at Chelsea at Stamford brdige. While Xhaka was in midfield we couldn't get out and gave Chelsea so many chances. As soon as he went to CB, our transitions in midfield improved and we could not only break against Chelsea but did so with 10 men!

Xhaka may have his strengths, but aerial presence is hardly one of them. One of my pet peeves with him in central midfield, is that he will always tend to drag our CBs out of position any time the opposition back 5 hoofs the ball into our half.

I don't care, it's great fun listening to the commentator when Xhaka and Saka combine.

"Xhaka, Saka, back to Xhaka, through to Saka."

Just needs Lacazette to find his shooting boots again and we can score goals that go "Xhaka-Saka-Laca!"

In addition, making a mess of this Pablo Mari transfer doesnt help either.

The crowd were singing Mustafis name last night .

Or was that Bournemouth fans lol

Xhaka just needs to leave, end of. Playing him at #10 of CB does not address any of our long term weaknesses. He’s one of many who just need to be sold in the summer

Found Xhaka' role interesting. Gave Saka the freedom to go forward. Saka looked outstanding but Xhaka was solid. Some sloppy passing at times.

Xhaka as a CB is 5 red cards a season before a ball is kicked.

Would do you a favour missing for 15 games a season.*

*I assumed straight reds.

The more I see of Xhaka under Arteta, is the more convinced I am that his troubles under Wenger and Emery are far more about how the two managers used him, than his flaws as a player. Personally I hope he stays at the club, he's not the first player to look atrocious due to the way his manager used him and he won't be the last.

Arteta is using him in a more offensive role either with positioning or tactics and it's paying dividends. Not so sure that he can't elevate Xhaka to the next level. Despite his big clumsy frame, there's alot of talent there. Some still untapped. Worth letting Arteta see if he can get it out of him, if the choice is that or sell him at a loss.

I still think we need to get him shooting from distance with regularity. At least one per game (per half preferrably) of football he plays. Yes he'll miss more of them than he scores but the few he will get, have the effect of "Another thing to worry about" on teams we play. It's a seriously underused weapon in our Arsenal, plus, so long as he's on target...ish the crowd love it and each defender crap 'emselves the ball will head for THEIR head.

All the Xhaka haters can't get around the fact that he is a key player for Arsenal. He was under Wenger and Emery and he is not under Arteta.

A key player for a team in 10th, GT.

He has been ok this season, but we really need to improve on him.

Full Time. . Monaco 0-1 St.Etienne

Solid game from Saliba after being out since late November due to yet another injury.

He dealt with everything on the ground and in the air despite Monaco being camped inside the St.Etienne half for the entire game. Keeper barely had anything to do over the final 10 minutes of play.

It was interesting to see him slot right into an unfamiliar (to me, at least) left-sided CB position and bossed his way to a very impressive clean sheet despite his team only managing 25% possession all game.

I still have questions though. His various injury problems mean that this was only his 6th league game of the season.

And the Xhaka bum as hers can’t get around the actual fact that we have not qualified for the CL since he joined us.

Luiz is our best defender currently. Only a idiot would let him go.

I think some want to turn any critique of a player as a love or hate thing. Not very intelligent is it?

Give me footballing reasons why we can't sit back deep and counter attack after we take a lead? Why do we need to be pushed to the half way line for Xhaka to be effective?

We have rightly praised Arteta for improving us but what has he done different to Emery apart from pushing us higher up the pitch? Emery used to play deep to protect his defence. And we looked terrible. Arteta pushes us to the half way line and we look better? But then whenever we drop deeper to defend a lead we look terrible! Who is responsible for that? Xhaka! The man is too slow to transition the ball. His medium range passing is average at best and he is slow physically to carry to carry the ball from defence to attack.

The idea somehow that the whole fanbase hates a player because? Just ridiculous narcissism!
