Should of shipped him last summer, kept a herrera and bought another midfielder.
To safeguard the club against expiring contracts. We don’t always activate the option, but we can without the player having any say. They know this when they sign.

So deep he hasn’t made it onto the pitch
Robbing, plus it can give the illusion of a player having a longer contract than he does. Which can work when negotiating sales. For others it can be useful if they’re winding down their career and extra year may be beneficial for us to fill a squad role for a year.
It’s the one thing about the way we do contracts that I really like. The wages and image rights is another thing altogether.
