That's one reason of many.

One of the biggest cons was to convince people that the reason they're poor is because of immigration.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Two thirds of Nissan workers in Sunderland voted leave putting their jobs at risk (which they were told would happen if the UK voted leave) they weren't conned they just didn't care.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can't say the entire electorate didn't care.

Some didn't, sure.

But it isn't as simple as that.

Remain was sold as money and economics....leave did a silly bus ad too, but for leavers it was not solely based on cash.

If you don't get that you don't understand brexit and British people.

From punk to being an independent island nation to standing up to Hitler and ussr etc.

It's a mindset too...not about wonga

No it will be a slow steady decline of lost industry, businesses and jobs and an erosion of rights, freedoms and protections.

Says a lot that there's numerous brexit voters on this thread and not one of you have managed to give GT a reason for being happy we're leaving.

Can't be that hard to explain why you voted surely?

Actually you'll find that the majority of the WWII generation were pro EU because they understood the need to have a Europe that works together without isolationism.

''YOU f*cking make it work. I have no intention of helping to clean up your toxic mess''.
-----------------------------------------------

The EU is also a toxic mess tbf.
It's an economic shiiitfest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it though?

Based on what? What you read in the Daily Fail?

Educate yourself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm 51.
Been retired around 3yrs.
I follow independent financiers who have no axe to grind ie no bias.
I'm always ''educating myself''.

You appear to know little regarding the EU in all honesty, not the actions of the ECB let alone the problems at Deutshe Bank, so maybe you study the largest economy in the world instead (that would make sense). If so, your thoughts on Sept 17th 2019 regarding the 'Repo-Market', The Feds actions and the financial consequences for us all would be welcome bud.
There are far larger problems ahead for all of us that makes Brexit pretty much an irrelevance.

As i stated earlier, please can we all stop spitting dummies

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I know it’s provided 70 years of peace, prosperity, citizenship, rights, freedoms and protections for Europe and her people, and we are throwing it away because a bunch of uneducated racists don’t like to hear a foreign accent down the doctors or on the bus.

Prove me wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have nothing to prove bud.
I didn't vote in the referendum for the same reason that i haven't voted since my mid-twenties, ie nothing changes for the betterment of the public, only ever for the 1%.
We're currently in the biggest 'boom' (pfft) in history yet people are in more debt than ever, reliance on credit (borrowing from your future to pay for your present) is at record levels...............yet the wealth gap continues increase?
Whether in or out is irrelevant. I can understand why many voted 'out' just as i understand why many voted 'in' but ultimately nothing will change for the better/worse for either side.
The wheels that have led us down this indebted path for the past 40yrs or so will continue to grind us all down regardless.

Jeez, i sound like a miserable old fart!!!!

Nope, it was to stop Hitler, not create a political union turning into an empire.....losing sovereignty, control, identity etc.

No reason we cannot work with Europe in peace Now.

The uncomfortable truth is if you want to be completely *sovereign* (in a globalised world) there will be consequences/trade-offs.

Trade/economics is based on harmonisation, and/or mutual recognition. Currently all goods, services, and capitol throughout the EU are considered as domestic. i.e a consignment from Glasgow to London is treated the same as a consignment from Glasgow to Lisbon.

After Brexit UK goods, services, and capitol will be treated as third country. Rendering them harder to export into the EU’s internal market.

Thus placing UK businesses at a competitive disadvantage compared to their European counterparts, and international businesses based in countries that have preferential market access to the EU's internal market.

This will lead to costs and impediments the majority of UK businesses have never faced before. Smaller businesses may find it harder to cope. Most will have never had to complete customs declarations before, and if paperwork not 100%, produce does not enter the EU.

Those peddling sovereignty have not been forthright in regard to the impact this will have on businesses and communities up and down the country.
