Jenas talks some b0ll0x.
In regard to the penalty fracas, Jenas said Sterling was going down without contact with lloris, because in that position you have to ask the question, which in itself is the very definition of a dive, then in the next breathe, he said it wasn't a dive.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

“Reckless” means that the player has acted with
complete disregard of the danger to, or consequences
for, his opponent:
a player who plays in a reckless manner shall be
cautioned
———
I suppose what they’re saying is you can recklessly fly into a tackle with no thought about endangering your opponent, snap his leg in two, and you’ll be booked

Fair enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, if you weren't using excessive force and you were making a genuine attempt for the ball. Which is fair enough in my book.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How on Earth do you measure excessive force?

If his leg snaps, surely that’s excessive enough
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Any time a player adds additional force apart from the natural action they are doing. So for example, jumping off the ground or keeping the leg raised after the natural follow through. A leg snap isn't always just about that though.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
But how would you know if a player is holding back or not, only the player himself knows if he’s putting everything into the challenge or pulling back a little

posted on 2/2/20

It was a genuine attempt for the ball, no malice and his studs wern't up.

Shouldn't have even been a yellow unlike the Aurier lunge on Mahrez that didn't even get a mention.

Haha, “shouldn’t have even been a yellow”

Yes, which is why it's always subjective. Some are obvious, some aren't, but that's part of what people don't realise with these kinds of debates. It's valid to think either and that's why VAR will never overturn a challenge like that - it's not clear and obvious.

Just watched the replay and it looks a penalty to me. Certainly not a yellow card for a dive as there is clear contact.

Didn't see anything from those match of the day replays that showed clear contact.
Either way, it doesn't alter the ridiculous nature of what Jenas said, which was basically even though you haven't been touched, which he thought Sterling hadn't been, you should go down anyway.

Yeah Jenas is the worst pundit out there. Can't stand the stuff he comes out with. Seems like a nice guy but talks absolute rubbish.

It was a nailed on red card just like Aubameyang’s red. Why are all the same pundits who said Auba’s red was the correct decision are now saying that Sterling’s foul wasn’t

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Studs weren't up?

They firmly implanted in Dele's leg. I'm not sure it should be a straight red, though you'll see some refs give it. It was clearly a bad foul - late and reckless. Very lucky not to do more damage, although it did eventually lead to him coming off so we'll see.

Not a red card for me.

Just because someone’s foot ends up connecting with the opposition player’s ankle doesn’t make it serious foul play.

Slow motion and images make it look bad but in real time I struggle to see how anyone can make a case for that being serious foul play.

It would look like one to Liverpool fans I understand. Years of watching their players fall over like being shot at whenever they are touched in the box, the latest one is on sat where Origi fell over in a heap in a crowded box to earn a nice pen? Of course Liverpool favs think any contact in the box merits a pen for them?

Definate foul but he got him with his instep.

Not quite in the same league as Alli's assault on KdB a while back which was deliberate and put him out of the game for 6 weeks.

Nowhere near the same as the Aubameyang one for me. Aubameyang comes in very late, nowhere near the ball and to be honest it looks to me like he could have pulled out of it but chose to keep his foot in.

clear as day red imo. not in control, over the top, studs up. Thought it straight away, was proved right on the replays.

VAR disagreed, so clearly not.

By letter of the law it was a yellow and both the on-field ref and VAR-ref thought that.

what is the letter of the law? If you could send me a link to where it says it is a yellow?
I thought dangerous play was a red.
