EV's are one of the hottest topics around. There is so much going on, and so much not understood.

EV's are turning up everywhere.
Thanks for giving me some feedback Michael. If I posted all the stuff happening in the EV world, it would swamp the PS4 news.
But when I do post EV stuff, people seem to like it.
I really enjoy reading your comments re EV's, Amiga - very insightful and they wish I could own one myself.
I have a 60 mile round trip commute every day so my fuel costs are high. I'd love to be able to consider an EV but it's just not possible at the moment - I park the car on the road away from my house and there's no charging point where I work (and none in the vacinity as far as I know) so there's no way of charging an EV for me.
I love the look of the new Leaf and the spec is superb - heated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel, along with a lot of toys and gadgets. The price is far too high, even for a second hand one, but as the prices come down and the infrastructure improves, it's definitely something that I will seriously consider in the near future.

Is your journey possible by other modes, or a combination of other modes? Could cycle to a train station and get a train?

Good to know some people are enjoying my post's.
I was thinking of using one of the little used sections to start a regular EV discussion. Ironically one of the least used is the xbox section, anyone interested in an EV discussion there?
AS for your EV dilemma. I must admit without a place to charge, it is not ideal. Things are changing. Lampost charging, pop up charger, and faster charging. But for now I would say keep your ear to the ground.
As for the Leaf, it is a great little car. I have one and love it. Having said that I would not recommend one. Things have moved on, and the Leaf lacks liquid battery cooling, so I am looking at other options. Hyundai, and Kia have some very good EV's, and most EV's will have heated seats and steering wheels, many have a cool seat option.
I am contemplating a Tesla Model 3, but hard to justify that sort of money, even if the car is so well done.
Oh well I have till November to figure out what I will do, Probably pay off the Leaf and see whats happens over the next few years.
Barry outed as a fraud
Interesting post though
OH, See The Stars. If you are interested in finding out about the charging network, and local ones you might use. (you will be surprised by how many there are) Download an App called Zap Map.
It will show all charging points available allow you to route plan and shows current status of chargers.
No EV driver should be without it.
You might know friend I went to university with. He created Plug Life Television on YouTube. I think you'd find it interesting. He is big into his battery development and research etc. Had a PhD from Oxford I remember him going about in the university's electric 106 back in 2008.
Cheers Ollie, I'll check it out.

Sadly not. I live out in the sticks of Leicestershire and by the time I had driven into town to get a train, I could have driven the 30 miles to work - and cycling is out of the question!!

Here's a question for you Amiga, seeing as you appear to be very clued up about these things - why can't EV's be fitted with some sort of dynamo/alternator/charging gizmo that charges the car as it's being driven? That would seem a perfect solution and I bet a lot more people would get on the electric bandwagon if the charging issue wasn't so much of a problem.
I read somewhere that Sweden are testing charging strips that go in the road and charge their EV's as they drive along them - another perfect solution!

Well all electric cars come with dynamo's, they are called electric motors, and as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator, the motor switches to being a dynamo, harvesting forward momentum charging the battery and slowing the car down. Unfortunately thanks to the laws of thermodynamics, you can never gain back more energy than you put in. If you could the world would have all the power it would ever need.
The electric Hyway is nothing new, and has been tried in other places, it is a work in progress, and certainly one of the ways being looked at to charge cars. but it will never be as efficient as plugging directly into the car.
As fa as solving charging times, Ultimately I think it will come in the form of a battery breakthough, and faster charge times.
Having said that, I have spent less time charging my car than I spent filling up with petrol. I plug in and go to bed. I love it.
I'm not a motorbike guy, never rode one, never wanted to. But I have been checking out peoples thoughts of the Harley new electric Livewire. This guy takes one for a test ride, and loves it so much I had to post it

While on the Subject many believe Hydrogen is the future of transportation, It really isn't.
Tony Seba explains why https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23lz9ercqvA
The majority of people sit about and eat takeaways, surely we can be harnessing the vast amounts of methane they produce, to power our vehicles? Maybe a tube beneath the passenger seat that leads to a tank to store the methane? Maybe a hybrid methane/electric?
Ollie, Hydrogen is an electric vehicle,
But you are obviously being silly. But it gave me a chance to make that point, as I forgot to put it into my previous post. So thanks
I repeat Hydrogen cars are electric,
I should also point out Hydrogen cars are electric, but horribly inefficient.
Also as well as the methane, pedals are not really required in electric cars, could easily just be hand controlled, so as well as harnessing the methane for the obese population, you could also have an exercise bike contraption instead of the pedals so the tubbies could be exercising whilst producing energy to help fuel the car. Or if it is an fully autonomous vehicle, just have actual bikes within the car so people can cycle whilst it is being autonomously driven.
