We were worse in the 80s, and being a kid then it hurt a lot more than mediocrity does today. (The rare high points were greater as well: Norman Whiteside's curled cup final winner in 1985 was as big for me as the magic of 1999 for another generation.)
But in recent history the Moyes season was a bigger downer for me than this one. Although my formative experiences in the 80s mean I've never taken success for granted, I still hadn't quite adjusted my expectations. This year for me feels like a mix of steps forward and frustrating steps back, but there are glimpses of optimism among those moments of despair. With Moyes we went from champions of England to shockingly lacking in confidence and coherence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My teenage to mid 30s years were great from a United perspective. That's when I used to go to far more games than I go to now because I didn't have any commitments at all. Football was very important to me back then. Nowadays it's still important but there are other things that are even more so.
Most of my friends have never had a legal beer to toast a Liverpool league win so I'm lucky in that respect!

anything from 1980 to 1990.
bar the odd fa cup run we were pretty dog shiiiite.
a few top 4 finishes when it meant nothing and a few in 11.
lets not forget that the season Fergie won the FA cup in 90 we finished 13th.
just goes to show how spoilt we were from 90 onwards, and by feck it shows on here at times

It definitely makes it all the more sweet for Liverpool fans of my age (born in 91).
My bitter hatred for United stems from seeing you win it all year in year out whilst I was a child!
Unlike other rivals (City, Chelsea, Spurs for example) I have a huge begrudging respect for United though.

Fair comment, I guess Moyes's season then.
It’s just been so boring. Obviously in terms of a title race, which is non existent. Credit to Liverpool of course, but the quality of the other “top” sides who are mostly in transition is woeful.

Seeing liverpool wipe the floor with the rest of the league has been a minor irritant. Like any utd fan Id prefer they didnt win the league, especially in such convincing fashion but at the same time it doesnt bother me that much either, I dont begrudge them their success. there are some people who get so angry by liverpool its rather concerning.
