In name only. As the printed press has been decimated by the internet staffing levels have dropped to the extent they cannot resource any significant, real journalism. They rely on regurgitation of controlled press releases. They may have a few contacts that feed them what they want to believe are inside stories or angles but are just a likely to be a pack of lies for their own purposes or to extract retribution.

They may have a qualification?
They may have been in the job since 'the good old days'?

But it isn't really journalism any more.

I don't read the Record so cannot comment on that and nor would I given Im not an expert on it.

You don't have to be an expert on journalism to know that a journalist should have two sources for every story, who corroborate what is being reported.

Jackson has just shown himself up to being anything but a journalist.

He's just a mouthpiece for whoever tells him what to say and when to say it.

no you don't have to be one but it helps.
But his boss seems to have asked him to write the story.

You end up with all sorts just saying they know better

When they probably don't

Perhaps in this story he has been rather silly.

I doubt very much one incident as such would mean he is not a journalist.

But its for you Record readers to decide if you continue or not to read the stuff they publish.
