Ideal situation?

A director of football needs to be better qualified than Ole. They need contacts in the football world, know how to implement a style of football and be able to attract the best names to the club among other things.

Appointing Ole as DoF would be worse than appointing him as manager. I could see Ed doing it as he would have a puppet there to allow him to keep the power while the ‘DoF’ satés the fans for a while but I hope it doesn’t happen

How do these DoFs begin? How do they get their qualifications?

They need to be able to identify what a squad needs, to identify targets, and then obtain them.

Can Ole do this? No idea.

Keep the power that he publicly denied having?

Ideal situation is we win the rest of our games this season, having found a style of football that is attractive and teams cannot handle. We then go onto win the league next season.

What we've lacked over the last 7 years is people with specialist skills fulfilling specialist roles. An organisation that is full of industry experts with the power to drive decision making within their areas of competence might be forgiven for identifying outstanding raw materials in an inexperienced individual and believing he or she would add something valuable to an already well oiled machine. But that's not us. We have a lack of expertise and leadership in our organisation. So we need to appoint an experienced football industry figure who can provide the leadership that ensures we have specialists where we need them, and all pulling in the same direction.

Solskjaer has far more credible qualifications to be our coach than to be our DoF.

Ole as DoF? No no no. Why do fans keep saying this?

Our current plan isn't unique to Ole. Many other teams and coaches have similar strategies.

People often mock me but when I hear them talk about Ole being DOF I realise even more they are the dumb ones.

Well a DoF job depends on the club's needs etc. VDS had no prior experience. I've never called you dumb so don't take out your pent up anger on me.

Some good points raised above. I do think though that right now we need a long term vision and some consistency. I can see from the transfer business that we do seem to be making the right moves towards what is needed. However a new manager will create more complexity and change at a time where we seem to be moving in the right direction as far as recruitment.

If we get posh and stick to our current targets I would be happy, but will be want them? There's a lot we don't know and it stinks again of putting all our eggs in one basket I.e. the manager

Our current strategy is prioritising British players with their ridiculous fees. I think this has to stop.

We spent £80m on a defender with no pace. Not sure that was a good long term signing, as it limits how we can play.
