It absolutely should remove any doubt that this is not a derogatory term when used in this context.

Absurd to suggest people should be charged with any offence for what anyone with an ounce of common sense is not meant in a racially aggravated manner.

David Baddiel will not be a happy bunny.

I've never understood it being a taboo word in football, when referring to spurs fans.

Spurs are proud of their Jewish links and yet they are the ones who use the word to identify themselves. I certainly don't think thousands of spurs fans are racist when I hear it.

Doesn't really sell papers or fit the media's current narrative in a world of sjw''s though.

Let's be honest tho it keeps David baddiel in a job every time the issue makes the news.

Just when you think you've finally come to terms with your seemingly irrational hate toward Tottenham fans, one of them types out a steaming pile of crap such as this. Zero self awareness whatsoever.

Of course it doesn't remove any issue considering there are millions of people around the world offended by it.

When will the initials, N, P, Y used to replace the offensive words become offensive because everyone knows what they represent?

posted on 12/2/20

I'm not gonna get involved beyond pointing out that whether or not it is included in the dictionary really shouldn't impact anyone's opinion on whether or not it is acceptable

So you’re going to speak on behalf of the offended people now, are you?

This is when the problems start. You’ve no actual idea what the people who have a right to comment on this feel, save for a few people.

No I'm not. I'm certainly not going to decide people can't be offended though. That's not for me to decide. A word appearing in a dictionary doesn't change that.

No one is saying people can’t be offended.

But equally, if anyone is offended by it, it doesn’t automatically mean that the use of the word is wrong.

A word being added to the dictionary does further legitimise it’s use.

I disagree. If people who are Jewish are offended by a derogatory term for them, then it automatically means the word is wrong and you don't get to decide it, they do. Being in the dictionary doesnt change that.

You don't get to decide what is offensive. That's for the people who are offended by it to decide. Theres whole websites, newspapers, blogs etc, all over the internet, for Jewish people against it. Perhaps have a read over them, before deciding they can't be offended because it's in the dictionary.

Why would it? The dictionary doesn’t get to decide whether it’s offensive or not.

posted on 12/2/20

Pretty sure more people will be offended by it than not offended by it.

Spurs only have small support + 25 man squad whereas there are far far more Jewish heritage people in the world.

TOOR, that’s absurd.

We have laws to determine what is and isn’t acceptable - you can’t just decide as an individual that you’re offended and so everyone has to follow your instruction.

I’m not deciding what is offensive, so why tell me what I already know?

And offence shouldn't decide whether words are banned or not. It is obviously the intent behind them, if Spurs fans want to call themselves the Y army and someone gets offended, so facking what.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But that’s a different matter. The dictionary definition isn’t going to remove this issue if people are still offended by it.

But it does help legitimise it’s use and in so doing, weakens any claim against unlawful behaviour imo.

Would be interested to hear the CPS view on it.

Winston, you could be right there. But the op asks if it removes any issue with its use in football context and I say it doesn’t as the dictionary isn’t defining it for the people that it offends.

Y!d simply means Jew, if a Spurs fan refers to himself as Y!d, why should a Jew be offended?
