A slim 1-0 win is irrelevant as Liverpool will batter anyone under the floodlights at Anfield in a European game.

Did Trips play?

Nope

That's one reason why they won!

Athletico are a product of their environment they can't compete with Real/Barca financially thus can't buy the best attacking players so build a gritty team to give them a chance of success if the former two have a rare off season.

It's actually pretty smart but it doesn't mean Simeone would use identical tactics at a club where he had more money to spend. They were also more offensive before they lost greasyman.

Saw most of the second half.
Based on that alone.......
I'd say Liverpool should win the return by 3 goals.
But, VVD aside, the Pool defence was absent at times, and if they get sucker punched again,... they will be in trouble.

How could anybody enjoy that win?!

Even Madrid fans should be embarrassed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only team to beat Liverpool in ages. This should be the blue print.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hire a shiiite referee, sit 11 behind the ball and hope we have an off night isn't much of a blueprint...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wait, isn' this the same ref that gave Liverpool a pen in CL final against SPurs after only 2 mins?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tell your players not to reach for the ball with their hand you mug
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You really are sore. Did you start supporting Liverpool this season?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sore yet spurs fans are bringing up a penalty from 8 months ago

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Only because Liverpool fans complaining about the ref who actually gave them a dodgy pen 8 months ago?

Only remember what is convenient?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hand away from body, going towards the ball and making yourself bigger is not a dodgy penalty, dimwit.

I get what you mean, but they've done remarkably well in terms of attacking talent since they were forced to sell Torres ... Aguero, Forlan, Falcao, Costa, Griezmann, all more than just your average forwards. They've had pretty decent supporting cast attacking players too ... and they only just forked out something like 130M euros on a teenage forward.

More than anything else, I'd say it's squad depth they can't compete with.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you're right about the squad depth but I'd point out the money they spent on Felix was around the same they received for Greasy.

As far as I know the majority of those forwards you mentioned they bought young and didn't in all cases spend a fortune on or at least sold for big profits and some came up through their academy (Torres at least?).

Their scouting, particularly of forwards over the years has been outstanding.

posted on 18/2/20

Some, not all. And they still spent fairly large sums on them.

Griezmann was already a consolidated forward who'd played 200 games for R Sociedad.
Forlan was no youngster, and had already won the European Golden Shoe at Villarreal
Falcao they spent pretty big on, was nearing his mid-20s and had already torn it up at Porto

There have also been quite a few they've spent good money on that haven't worked out. Jackson Martinez immediately springs to mind, but pretty sure he wasn't the only one.

Going back even further, they've had the likes of Christian Vieri or Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Hugo Sanchez or Paulo Future, all very much top drawer forwards in their day.

That said though, and just to underline it, I do agree with your initial remark. Atletico have mostly been a counter-attacking side for pretty much as far back as I can remember, which goes back to the 1980s.

What happened, was he upset they had a straight referee for once?

posted on 19/2/20

Without any doubt Liverpool currently have a great squad that is playing well together. They have not lost often this season, but that does not mean that they have the RIGHT to always win! Instead of accepting the loss at Atletico with class, many on the team acted like petulant little kids complaining about just every decision by the game officials. Then we also had too much camera time on Klopp who behaved like an infected chimpanzee on the sidelines throughout the game!

Liverpool FC show a little class and try to lose gracefully!

Apparently this was the same referee that officiated the CL final last year.

Now the ref straight?

So the penalty in last year's final was the correct decision then?

Liverpool fans don't take defeat very well.

How can they be classed as the best team in the world, when they lose every away European game they play.

Ok, nob how can a player avoid the ball hitting his hand if the opposition player lobs the ball onto his hand?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm guessing this one is one of many sad pool fan's who continued to complain about the Kane penalty given at Anfield, up to two years after the game. Yeah, thought so.
And as for the farce called last year's CL final, seriously mate, anyone with ounce of football nounce knows he was using his arm to direct other Spurs players into position, only for Mane to deliberately smash ( not lob ) the ball at him.

No one has an issue when a team they support loses tbh and they are a great team.

Liverpool dominated the play but suffered from giving away a goal, more down to good fortune, against a team that has one of the best defenses around.

What people don't like is play acting and the dark arts that were driven out the PL years ago.

If spurs played that game they would have every right to be optimistic about the return leg, you're just a bitter toxic old man that likes stirring it up.

What funnier is that you are the first to cry to admin and block posters when people do it to you 😅

I love spurs but posters like you make it difficult at times, whilst its fair to say you offer nothing to these forums at all but bad trolling nowadays.

I'm aware that inability to accept losing is a big part of what makes a winner's mentality, but... this is why I'll never like Klopp. He's a really bad loser. I also tend to think he's a pretty graceless winner, which is probably worse, but he seems to have chilled out a bit recently (probably because he's so used to Liverpool winning )

I'd be surprised if Liverpool don't turn it around at Anfield, and in some style. Hard to see which side will stop them when they have such momentum.

Jose, fergie, Klopp and even pep are bad losers. Terrible losers.

I think what annoyed Klopp was the cringe attempts to get Mane sent off. The play acting was expected but not on that level. You just don't see that in the PL nowadays.
Fans wouldnt tollerate it imo. Im a fan of football but God it makes it so hard to watch a game with that constantly. Gotta be frustrating tbh
